Holly's POV

Today was the day of my singing competition.  My family and I had just arrived and were looking for their seats in the crowd. Once I had been crushed in a hug by everyone, they all wished me luck. I made my way backstage where the other contestants were standing. I was so nervous; my hands were shaking so badly. I didn't often get stage fright but it may just be the fact that it was the finals.

There were many people standing backstage. A lot of the crew members were running around, getting microphones and water bottles, but there was one person that caught my eye. A boy that was around about 2 years older than me was standing near the side of the stage looking out at the audience. I found him intriguing and decided to go wish him luck.

Liam's POV

I was looking out over the audience, god, I was so nervous. Will I have a good enough voice? What if I stuff up? What if everybody hates me? I was going over the list of bad things in my head when somebody tapped my shoulder. I turned to look at who it was. I was suddenly looking into the beautiful blue eyes of a young girl. She must have been about seventeen, she was wearing a beautiful thin strapped dress covered in red and pink roses. Her hair was swept to the side, pinned back with a pale pink bow that matched her dress. She wore only light makeup, her lashes were long with a subtle touch of mascara to accentuate the brilliant blue of her eyes.

"Hi I'm Holly" She extended her hand in greeting. For a moment I panicked. Just shake her hand. Easy, right? Apparently not, I thought as I knocked the entire flower display off the mantle. Thank god that thing is made out of plastic.

"Are you alright?" she asked concerned as I frantically tried to place the piece back on its stand.

I don't know why, but when I went to reply my mouth wouldn't cooperate. I completely chocked up. She was still standing there waiting for an answer. I still couldn't answer, it's like the moment I saw her, my brain turned to goo. I ended up nodding in response, mentally slapping myself for making a bad first impression.

"Well..." she said noticing that I wasn't going to answer. "I just wanted to wish you luck" she said smiling. My brain finally decided to snap back into action and I smiled back.

"You too, I'll bet you'll do great".

She gave me one last smile before turning around and walking around the hall and back to what looked like to be her family. She was so nice, god I must have looked like an idiot standing there. I hope I get to see her again.

Holly's POV

Well that was eventful. The moment I seemed to talk to the boy, whose name I still don't know, he just seemed to freeze. Maybe it was just his nerves. The competition had now started, and the first couple of names before mine had been called. The nerves were beginning to set in. I saw the boy form earlier standing in line.

"And the next performer is Liam Payne" the announcer said into the microphone. So that's his name, Liam, it suites him. The boy turned to me and gave a small wave and a smile before walking out onto the stage.

The music started to play and then I heard his voice, it was beautiful.

Liam POV

The clapping of the audience continued as I walked off stage, that was my best performance yet. That girl gave me the courage I needed to perform without getting stage fright.

The announcer ran back onto the stage, ready to usher over the next singer.

"Another great performance from Liam, our next singer goes by the name of Holly" he spoke.

The same girl that I waved to before going on stage stepped out in the light. She really was beautiful, and then she started singer. She was amazing.

~ Later ~

Liam POV

Everybody had now performed and we were all waiting anxiously for the judge's news. After about ten minutes of the judge's quietly talking amongst themselves, they called the final contests back to the stage. All the contest's walked back out onto the stage and stood in a line. The audience had suddenly gone quiet, awaiting the winner name to be called.

After the announcer talked for another couple of minutes, he finally decided to tell us the winner.

"So, now to announce the winner, drum roll please........."

"Liam Payne"

I jumped in surprise, I'd won. I stumbled over to the man and he shook my hand and handed me a trophy. . I could see my family taking photo's from every angle, they were just as excited for the win as I was.

"Now to announce second place, another drum roll please......."

"Holly Gilbert"

Holly stepped forward and collected her award. I could see her family going crazy in the audience. She gave the biggest smile and thanked the man who handed her the trophy.

The audience had stood and up and were clapping so loudly. People were whistling and shouting things like "well done!" and "Woo hoo".

It was quite embarrassing actually.

Holly's POV

I made my way off of the stage and around the back to celebrate with my family. After the competition had ended people started filing out the back doors, as the competition winners went backstage to wait for the 'winners' photos.

Liam walked towards me. "Hi" he greeted.

"Hey" I replied.

"Thank you" he said. I looked at him confused.

"Thank you for what?" I said still looking confused.

"For encouraging me before the show,  you who made it possible for me to win" he said looking down embarrassed.

"I wanted to ask you something else, if that's OK with you" he said avoiding my gaze.

"Ask away" I replied.

"Would you like too......Um...go on a date with me?" he whispered blushing.

I smiled at his cuteness.

"I would love too" I smiled as I replied.

He looked up suddenly as though he hadn't been expecting my response.

"Really?!" he looked shocked.

"Of course"I gave a half smile in amusement.

"And that is how we meet everyone, at a singing concert" I spoke into the microphone. I was drawn back into the fluorescent lights of the stage, as I gazed at the love stricken faces of the fans.

"And we haven't been without each other since" Liam said, turning his body to face me.

He picked up each hand, kissing my knuckles in an affectionate gesture. The crowd screamed in an overload of joy. Out of the corner of my eye (in my embarrassment) I think I saw someone faint in the front row, security checking to make sure she was alright. She was eventually escorted through the crowd crying happily about Liam and I relationship. The fans are so lovely I thought.

What started with a competition ended with the biggest prize, something better than any trophy they could give me. The best man I ever met.

For Holly, I said I would finish it.
