Otto's face fell as Miss O finished speaking and strode away to her office. The whole dressing up part wasn't so bad. He already wore a suit and tie every day, and there would be food at the party, which meant every kind of cake, cookie, and donut imaginable.
No, the really horrible thing was there would be dancing. He was pretty sure Miss O didn't mean the kind of dancing where you rocked out by yourself to Soundcheck. The other kind of dancing involved a partner. Who would be even a possible dance partner? He glanced automatically at Olive.
She was smiling to herself, probably caught up in making plans for the party. Otto liked it when she smiled. She was usually so serious and a large smile from her was extremely rare. Otto shook his head, no, not in a hundred lifetimes could he ask Olive to dance.
He would simply stand off to the side, eat food, and watch other people braver then himself dance. But then again, was it possible that Olive might expect him to dance with her? The thought of her dancing with some other faceless person brought a heated flush to his cheeks. He had no idea why.
Otto trudged over to his desk, still in deep thought. He gathered up his headphones and began heading toward the tube lobby when Olive walked up to him.
"You're going to the party right?"
"Yeah, of course I am." Otto glanced down at her, "What about you?"
"I'm going, but I'm a little uncomfortable with the whole dancing thing." Olive admitted honestly.
Otto relaxed a little. Maybe she wouldn't dance at all. Then he wouldn't be pressured to ask her. "Yeah, well, it's not like they'll force us to dance."
"No, I wouldn't think so, but I do think it would be kind of fun to try." Olive flashed a meaningful glance up at Otto, but it was completely lost to him.
Never mind. The relaxing feeling was gone. She did want to dance. With or without him, he wasn't sure. How could he ever work up the nerve to ask her?
"Well, see you tomorrow partner." Olive sighed as they stepped into separate tubes.
"Yeah, see you." Otto called out just as he was squished into a traveling pod and sent whooshing away from Headquarters. One thing was certain, he had a lot to think about.
