So it Begins

Otto stood in front of his bedroom mirror and nervously adjusted his bright blue tie. He had chosen blue because it was the favorite color of his second favorite member of Soundcheck. He glanced down at the only pair of black shoes he owned. They were a little small, but seeing as he rarely wore them, it didn't matter much.

Otto took a deep breath, opened his closet door, pushed back his cloths, and stepped into his personal tube transport, where he was promptly whooshed towards Headquarters. With a distant yell of "Incoming!" Otto landed in the tube lobby and stepped out of his pod, adjusting his tie. He hurried past O'Malley without speaking, seeing as O'Malley had his glowing sword drawn and was growling under his breath.

Otto felt both sorry for and jealous of O'Malley's situation. Because O'Malley was on tube duty he would miss most of the party, which meant no amazing food and no pressure of having to dance.

With a shake of his head and a last adjustment of his tie, Otto walked as confidently as he could through the doors to the main body of head-quarters. It looked as Otto had never seen it look before.

A huge disco ball hung over the dance floor causing everything to be bathed in a plethora of different spots of color. All the desks had been removed and a large sliver dance floor had taken their place, complete with the Odd Squad emblem at its center. Off to one side was the largest buffet table Otto had ever laid eyes on. Every cookie, pie, donut, and pastry imaginable covered its surface.

Without another thought, Otto began to make his way toward the table of glory when Oscar appeared in front of him. He was dressed in his usual white lab coat. The only difference was that his green bow tie was embedded with sequins, making it sparkle in the dim light. "Hey Otto. I've been asking around and was wondering what you think of the decorations and food and stuff."

"I think it's really great." Otto gestured toward the disco ball behind him, "The disco ball's a nice touch."

"Yeah, it took me forever to catch all the different colored Meeps, and then to persuading them to get in the ball was so bad..." Oscar shuddered and blinked, "Well, I'm glad you like them." He moved off to ask someone else and Otto continued his interrupted journey toward the food table.

After he had successfully gasped three donuts in one hand and a piece of pizza in the other Otto stood off to the side and surveyed the party guests.

The majority of the agents hadn't arrived yet and so the party members were only a few. In one corner was Octavia who was wearing a sunshine yellow dress and was talking to what appeared be thin air. Otto knew it was most likely her invisible partner Oz. Octavia noticed Otto looking at her and paused in her conversation long enough to give him a small wave. He smiled and returned it before turning his attention back to the other members in the room.

Orchid sat in one corner of the dance floor. She was holding one of her largest dinosaurs who had been dressed in a black suit and tie. Orchid, however, was not wearing a dress but her usual work suit and a bright orange tie.

Oren and Olaf stood at the far end of the hall discussing something in quiet voices. They both had on suits and black shoes, but Oren wore a silver tie while Olaf sported a potato patterned one.

"Hello Otto," Droned the voice of Oksana from behind him.

Otto spun around to find Oksana staring at him and holding out a tray piled high with cookies.

"I thought you would like to try some of these before they're all gone." She stared expressionlessly at him.

"Um, thanks," Otto took a cookie, confused. Oksana rarely ever talked to him.

"I just want you to know that I don't have any kitchen assistants. But if I ever did have one, I would pick you." She continued to stare expressionlessly at him.

Otto had no idea what to make of this statement. He was about to say something (exactly what, he didn't know), when Octavia saved him from answering.

"Hey Otto! I just thought I should come say hi. So, Hi." She smiled brightly at him and completely ignored Oksana. Otto found this strange. Octavia was usually so nice to everyone. "How are you doing?"

"Fine. How are you?" Otto asked politely.

"Oh, I'm doing pretty well. Oz and I solved almost seven cases today." She smiled proudly.

"Nice. Olive and I—

Otto was interrupted as Oksana shoved a cookie into his hand and spoke threateningly, "Otto's too busy eating the cookies I made to talk to you."

Both girls glared at each other as Otto stood utterly frozen, and completely confused between the two of them. This was getting more awkward by the second. Why couldn't girls just act normal?

Suddenly the main doors opened and a horde of agents poured in all dressed in different colored ties and dresses.

And then Otto saw her.

He had to blink a few extra times just to make sure his eyes weren't playing tricks on him.

Olive was dressed in a beautiful ocean blue dress that seemed to float around her as she walked. It was strange seeing Olive in a dress but it was stranger still to see her with her hair down. Otto had never seen Olive without her hair in a tight pony-tail, but now it hung about her shoulders, slightly curled about the ends. It made her look younger and less serious.

Olive caught sight of him and smiled one of her rare smiles. The smile turned into a frown, however, as she caught sight of Oksana and Octavia who seemed to be engaged in an intense staring contest. As Olive made her way over to him, Otto realized embarrassingly that his mouth was hanging open. He closed it quickly, hoping she hadn't noticed.
