Chapter 12

(This is dated two days after Kate got kidnapped by Jasper right from the castle..)

"Madame. Here is your breakfast.", a maid said as other maids burst into the room Kate was concealed in and placed them by the desk. Kate shrugged and just stared at the food. She didn't feel like eating. Why? Because she was stuck here, because Jasper is trying to get her to marry him, and because she hasn't seen her prince since the day she was captured. She was imprisoned in a place where a princess would likely be imprisoned.

She was sitting on the queen sized bed in the middle of the room. The desk where her food would lay and would be taken away, untouched was by the big window outlooking the sea. It seemed to Kate that this might be one of the only buildings owned by gangsters that are above ground. There was a fireplace and a cozy mini living area and some bookshelves. She sighed. Jasper do know what i like.. From where to place my little alcove where i could read, to how i want my room to have a fireplace and to how i like my whole room carpeted and the colors that i want.. He knows.

Kate glanced again around her gray room. Even though everything is how she dreamt her room, someday in her own home she built for herself, would be, she couldn't help missing Daniel.

The maids emerged back and the same maid that talked earlier muttered under her breathe, probably showing how disappointed she was at the untouched food. Kate hadn't eaten today. Yesterday, she had eaten chocolate bars for breakfast, lunch and dinner - she found the bars in her pockets.

She sighed as Jasper went into the room and began blabbering about how Kate should eat and blah blah blah he went.

"We have to find her!", Daniel shouted, pulling at his hair. He hasn't slept and had only eaten light meals ever since they found out about Kate's diappearance.

"Why are you even making such a fuss over a little silly commoner girl?", his father said and scoffed. He groaned and rubbed his temples. Then he turned to his father with a murderous glare.

"I care because i happen to love her with all my heart. If this happened to one of your family members, you'd feel the same way. Except if you really don't have a heart. Which i am pretty sure you don't.", he said, turned and walked out the throne room. He sighed as he remembered their talk one morning.

Daniel's POV

"Oh. Daniel, i have a question.", Kate said, resting her head on my chest as we sat on the couch in her apartment. I saw eyes glancing at us across the street through the wide window and smirked as i pulled her closer and got a scowl from Jasper.

"What is it, my love?", i said as i caressed her hair.

"If i get lost or got away from you or something, what would you do?", she asked. Several scenarios passed through my head and all of them were painful in one way.. It was the thought of losing Kate that was painful.

"Of course, i would panic then look for you immediately and make sure that you're safe.", i said and twirled her hair around my fingers.

"Promise me that whatever happens you'd look for me?", she said as she looked up at me.

"Of course, my love. I promise.", i said. She smiled widely at me and rested her head back on my chest. I didn't know why she had to make me promise that because i knew to myself that i was telling the truth and that if ever she got lost from me, i'd find her. I'd find her. And i would do anything to do so.

The memory hang around the air around Daniel like a promise. "Yes, i swear i'd find you Kate. And i swear i'll get you to safety even if i die trying.", he said to himself.

Just then, a thought struck him. The fact that Jasper was behind all this was lingering in the back of his head ever since she got missing. It occured to him that this might be true after all. Jasper wanted Kate for himself, to be his bride and we've search the whole of Britain. The only place i haven't searched in is.. His eyes widened in disbelief.. Is the Under City.

"Maku, i'm home!", Jade shouted back in the US as she walked into the house. She soon heard the thumps of footsteps going down the stairs. Maku immediately hugged her, delighted to see her again; his little sister.

"And i brought a friend!", Jade excitedly told Maku as Maku let go of her.

"Really? Who?", he said and opened the door wide. He grinned when he saw Mac and Mac grinned back.

"Mac! Dude! How've you been?!", he said as he greeted Mac with their handshake.

"Great! Honestly, i came here a month ago but schedule is hectic, dude!", Mac answered and he started telling Maku of everything that happened. Maku beamed proudly at Jade when Mac told him how she solved the Piper mistery and Jade smiled shyly and walked to the kitchen to prepare dinner as Maku told Mac of his plan to go to Japan in a few months or so.

"Are you really going through with that?", Mac asked as they ate the dinner that Jade prepared.

"Yeah. I will pursue my dream of being a cartoonist, Alpheus.", Maku told Mac - using Mac's other name.

"Well, maybe you'll find 'the one' there in Japan for you too, Aldridge.", Mac said - using Maku's other name.

"The one?!", Maku said, laughing. "What about you, Alpheus? Where's your 'the one'?"

"Oh here. In my native land.", he answered Maku. Maku looked over at his sister and Jade blushed but hid it with a laugh.

"Poetic much?", Jade said as she joined in the conversation. The three talked like old friends - like they really are - until it was past midnight and they all retired to bed - Mac using the spare bedroom beside Jade's.

I don't know what i honestly feel for Jade. Mac repeated his answer to Maku's whispered question awhile ago. It's the first time that i don't know how i feel but i do know that i wanna keep her happy...

Is that love?

It is, isn't it?

Shit.. I'm screwed..

I'm in love with my bestfriend..

I'm in love with Jade..
