one minute too late

On a bright summer day, in late August of 1992, Theresa Williams dies.

She dies struggling to breathe, lying on a bed of blood-stained grass with the sun in her eyes. The people who could have saved her are just a little too slow to the scene; by the time they find her, she's glassy-eyed and blissfully unaware of the injuries that would have been hard to recover from anyway (a leg at the wrong angle, a lung still slowly filling with blood). They try halfheartedly to bring her back anyway, but there's little chance and no point wasting all of their strength.

Hidden in their shadows, a reaper wraps its hands around her soul and leads her away.
