Remember

She still remembered him.

How could she forget?

His eyes, the vibrant, sparkling green.

His hair, a luminous blonde.

Himself, perfect in every way.

The eyes, turning cold, losing the sparkle.

His hair, losing its shine.

His perfectness, gone, beneath the ground.

The blood, the bright red blood, slowly trickling down from his chest.

The knife, still shiny, coated in his life.

Her life.

Their life.

His last words.

His last gasps.

"Don't ... Don't forget me, Princess. But ...don't remember me ... too much."

"I ... I love you."

"I'm ... I'm pawfully sorry."

A flicker of a grin.

His heartbeat, their heartbeat. Gone.

She still remembered.

The shock, the grief, the raw pain that she felt.

She couldn't lose him.

She couldn't lose Adrien.

She couldn't lose her kitty.

She remembered the sobs.

Heart-wrenching sobs, Tikki told her afterwards.

"I'm so sorry, Kitty. I'm sorry I couldn't protect you."

"I will never forget you. I cannot forget you."

"I love you too."

Guilt.

The guilt.

Why hadn't it been her?

In a way, she was glad.

Glad that her partner would never have to suffer the pain she felt right now.

They lay his body in the grave.

She hadn't cried yet.

All her tears had gone that night.

She looked at the tombstone-

And found she had more tears to shed.

Alya knew she would never be the same.

Everyone tried to get her to move on. He wouldn't have wanted you to be like this, they said. He would have wanted you to be happy.

But she couldn't.

It was impossible.

Who could move on from him?

It had been 5 years.

She tried.

She tried so hard.

He had told her.

"Don't remember me too much."

He wanted her to move on. Find a guy. Have a life.

Without him.

She couldn't.

No-one could replace him.

And whenever she sat, laughing with another boy, she saw him.

In their smile, in their laugh, in their eyes.

Not his eyes. Not his smile. Not his laugh.

She withdrew.

She saw him sometimes.

Standing across the street, hands in pockets, smiling that perfect smile.

"A stroll, M'Lady?"

It was written in his eyes.

Hand held out. Waiting.

Waiting for her.

A sob in her throat, she turned away.

Because it wasn't real.

It could never be real.

He was gone.

Everywhere she looked, she saw him.

The school, where he used to sit.

The Eiffel Tower, their regular meeting place.

The café, where they had their first date.

Their secret garden, where he said he loved her.

The fountain, where they kissed.

Everything reminded her.

Reminded her of the boy she used to love.

Still loved.

But was gone.

10 years.

She couldn't take it anymore.

What was life without him?

She was already dead.

She had died with him.

The only thing left was her body, an old shell, ready to be discarded.

She looked at him.

His hands in his pockets, a soft, unsure smile on his perfect face.

"Are you sure, Princess? Am I really worth it?"

Hesitantly, he held out his hand.

Smiling, she placed her hand in his.

"Marinette?"

A/N: Um...that was the saddest oneshot I have ever written.

And it made me realise... I like writing sad oneshots!

I sound creepy. Accept it.

So, this means one thing... I am definitely going to write more sad oneshots!

Also, if you were confused, all the italic parts are basically Marinette's memories of what Adrien said to her. So, for example, when he says "Are you sure, Princess? Am I really worth it?" is basically something Adrien said to Marinette when he was alive.

Except for when it goes, "Marinette?". I'll leave you to decide what that was. The afterlife? A memory? Your choice!
