Most people believe that life is a prize. And if you asked me if I believed in the saying, I would say yes.
But it comes with a price a high one at that. And to say I felt like I've been cursed since the day I was born, would be an understatement.
See I would give you the sap cliche, sob story. But where is that gone get me? With a few more tears and broken memories.
With a Greek Papi and a black mama, my childhood wasn't as pleasant as others. Papi was the peacemaker, and my mama was a world of trouble.
The typical interracial couple. My mama was the rowdy African-American teenager in the late 80's. Getting in anything she can.
My Papi, oh he was my everything. I was a Daddy's girl for real, and we literally did everything together. He was my heart and I was his.
My mother didn't have the same life my Papi had. He grew up in a Greek household. Well rounded, my mother not so much.
She had no daddy, to call a father. Or a mama to call a Mother. So of course when she seen the attention my dad had given me, she became jealous.
I did my best to always keep her happy. I made the best grades, did my chores to the best of my availability , and was a nice amiable girl.
It was never enough. She couldn't get over the fact that, a bond between a Daughter and Father. Is too strong to interfere with.
So I was punished. Severaly. It was days I couldn't go to school, because of the damaged she had caused. And my dad a worldwide business man. And what do business man do?
Travel. A lot. So of course he would see past all the Red Flags. And only see the great. It wasn't till, he came home unexpectedly. I was locked in the closet, I was 10 at the time in then 5th grade. I had just got in trouble for playing in her lipstick. And the closet was time out. I still can remember every detail.
May 2008
"Oh my Leda you look so beautiful." I said in a male voice. My dad would call me by my middle name. So I referred myself to that name sometimes.
"Why thank you Justin, am I one step closer to being Mrs. Bieber?"
"Serene!"
I hurried up and closed the lip stick, at the same time trying to wipe it off my lips.
"Serene! Don't make me call you again!"
I walked down the steps and saw my mama with her arms folded.
"Yes mama?" I said chewing on my hair. Out of nervousness.
"What was ya doin' lil girl?" She said with an raised brow.
"I was in the bathroom."
