It was the expected, the given, right? But, why am I so surprised?
I nibble at the edges of my sandwich, looking up at Ria. Ria just sat there, lost in her own world. This was new. Maybe Elise was the interesting one.
"Elise," I say, "Elise!" She doesn't look up from her sketch book.
"Elise," I snap my fingers in front of her face. She looks up, startled.
"Whatcha drawing?" I say.
"Nothing," Elise says, dismissively. I grab her sketch book.
On the paper, there were a bunch of circles, with dots in them. Just random circles. "Cool," I say.
"You like it? You really like it, Kriss?" Her eyes glimmer with hope, and she smiles. Umm, weird.
"Yeah, sure. I mean, who doesn't like circles?" I say, but Elise just doesn't grasp my tone.
"Thank you!" Elise gushed.
Why in the world am I here? Who in the world am I eating with? I should be eating with them, I think, looking in direction of Amber.
Amber Evans and her group are practically royalty. Everyone wants to be part of her group, or be Amber. They always walk together, always synchronized. You can literally feel their authority and superiority radiating off them.
It was pathetic really. How I'd planned over the summer what I'd wear, what I'd do to be instantly popular. I mean, how does that even work?
Obviously, my plan had failed, I mean, I'm eating with thing 1 and thing 2 for goodness' sake!
At my old school, everyone loved me. I was Amber. Here, I'm a nobody- at the bottom of the food chain... The person I used to make fun of.
My mission is clear: dethrone Amber.
A/N: That was the first chapter (obviously), and I was also cringing- so you're not alone there. Anyways, hope you give it a like anyways, and until next time! Bye!
