Chapter One

The woman in front of me did not look happy. She held an uncomfortable looking fake smile on her face and a look in her eyes that screamed for me to go away. But nonetheless, she did her job.

She handed me a flyer from the stack she held against her chest. I took one look at it and handed it back.

"No." I said, shoving the flyer back at her.

"E-excuse me? This is every young girls chance to finally have their dreams come true, and you don't want it?" She looked very much offended.

I looked back at the flyer.

The Cinderella Raffle
This is your chance to become a princess!
Just one dollar to enter!
This is a once in a lifetime opportunity to find the prince of your dreams!
Raffle ends today, get your ticket while you can

"This is totally a scam." She looks even more offended. Maybe because someone just told her that her business is a scam.

She paused for a moment to see if I would say that I was joking or it was just a prank and easily offer up a dollar of my precious college savings. She did not get her way. Oh not today.

"It's not a scam." She forced through her teeth, her neck and face turning an ugly shade of red. "You know what, since you will definitely not win anyways, I'll give you two tickets for the price of one. 'Kay?" She cocked one of her perfectly sculpted eyebrows up.

I rolled my eyes. "'Kay." I mimicked her sarcastic tone as I tried to un-crumple my dollar for her.

As soon as she saw it, she snatched it out of my hands and into her own pocket for trade of two blue raffle tickets.

"I'd better win." I glare as I take the two tickets from her greedy little fingers.

"Like you'd ever have a chance." She mumbled before walking over to the next gullible citizen.

I roll my eyes and continue back on my original path as I kick a rock between my feet. I'm imagining that I am a world famous soccer player and I'm going in for the tie-breaking goal. And she shoots!

I watch as the rock bounces down the sidewalk and at the end hits the ankle of a civilian walking down the street.

"S-"

"Ah! Help! I've been stabbed!" He yells as he clutches his ankle.

I stand in shock for a moment. Did a grown man just scream for help because of a pebble?

"Well that stab was a rock." I bend down to show him the culprit.

He reacts immediately. It's almost like someone just switched him off. He could win an oscar for that acting. He drops his ankle and inspects the rock as if it's a precious gem. He takes it out of his hand and into the pocket of his dress pants.

It's now that I realize how expensive he looks. His platinum blonde hair is nicely styled, except for a silly leaf, with bangs that neatly fall into his steel blue eyes. His outfit is very prestigious with a fancy white suit and dress shoes. He looks almost like a princes. Except for the leaf.

I must of been staring for longer than I thought.

"Like what you see?" He wiggles his eyebrows and barely holds back a laugh. As he smiles, his cheeks get dusted with a blush and I catch a glimmer of a diamond stud in his right ear.

"What's your name?"

"Avery."

"Avery what?"

"Avery Cinder." I sigh. There's nothing dangerous about giving away your first and last name to a stranger, right?

"I'm Jacob. Just Jacob. Nothing pretty and cute like Avery Cinder." He sighs and drags his gaze to the ground.

"Oh hey!" He perks back up, as if his switch just turned back on. "Are you participating in the raffle tonight?"

"I guess so. The lady who was handing out the flyers gave me a discount if I stopped annoying her." I decided to skip the part about how I thought it was a scam.

"A discount? Wow you must be really special to get a discount. Ella never gives discounts on anything." He shakes his head with a laugh. "Anyways, I've gotta run. If my brothers catch me out her, they'll eat me alive." He widens his eyes for a dramatic effect.

"Okay sure." I laugh as he waves goodbye and jogs across the street, without looking both ways might I add. The only direction he was looking at was at me.

"Oh wait! Jacob!" I yell to him.

"Yeah?"

Payback. "What's your last name."

"Charming." He says with a wink.

Jacob Charming.

The rang a bell. A very familiar bell.

I look down at the flyer. The faces of the five princes stare back at me. Their names float above their heads in a stunning calligraphy. I look to the left corner where Jacob is written in cursive. That smile is all to familiar.

Jacob Charming.

Prince Charming.

Always look both ways before crossing the street and never give your first or last name to strangers. No matter how handsome they may be ;)
