Harry pulled back the covers carefully the next morning, trying not to wake Ginny, who's vivid hair was sprawled over the pillow. He felt a pang of guilt as he dressed. He didn't want to be doing this at all, to deceive anyone, to meddle, but no matter how hard he, Hermione, and Ron tried, they just couldn't stay out of anything.
But he was not bringing Ginny into this. She had suffered so much, nearly died several times, and had lost so much because of him, and Harry was never going to let her come anywhere near his latest expedition.
He opened and then closed his front door, only to face Hermione, who still looked miffed at the fact that Ginny wasn't coming, and Ron, who was nibbling another piece of licorice.
Harry, smiling, said, "How many licorice wands do you have, Ron?"
"I have loads! Do you wan-"
Hermione batted the licorice out of his hand, looking stern. She cleared her throat, and then said, "Okay, here's the plan. I say we apparate to as close to Azkaban as we can get. Then we work from there. Harry's Patronus charm will ward off the dementors, I will deal with the enchantments. Ron, you will hold off any attackers, and create diversions if necessary. Alright?"
They both nodded, looking grave. She offered her hands, and Ron and Harry both took one.
And suddenly, they were whirling through space, to a place that Harry had never hoped to go.
