"I think he's still breathing,"
"Doesn't matter, he wasn't worth it anyway,"
"Why did they even accept him as a specimen? His body's too weak,"
This is all I heard. The conversation of the doctors, nurses, surgeons, and just about every job in the medical field you could think of. I didn't really care what they were thinking, though. I was used to being treated like this by now.
Ok, to get things started I should I should introduce my self. My name is Lillian Joy; I'm four foot nine, weigh eighty pounds, and 18 years old. Yeah I know I'm short, don't rub it in. I have pale skin that's covered in embarrassing freckles, brown hair that is a little long for a guy's, and jet black eyes. For some reason that's the way people described my eye color, it's really weird. I had no idea "jet-black" was in the human iris color spectrum. And to top it all of, I have a space between my two front teeth. I know, it makes it hard for people to believe I'm eighteen. Alright, get back on track Lillian.
Now, to explain the background of what the hell is going on. I was minding my own business in my home, reading the latest chapter in the Amazing Spider Man comic books. It was a totally normal day, besides the fact that some insane crazy psychopath scientists were coming to abduct me from my own home. Talk about rude, am I right? At the moment I was home by myself, which just added to the overall creepiness of the situation. My mom just had to pick now to go get milk from the store. The doorbell rang, and I ran down my rickety stairs to get the door. The minute I opened the door, my house was rushed by guys with huge machine guns; armor that looked like it could repel an atomic bomb blast, and gas masks that just really freaked me out.
I stood there stunned, wondering why some weird FBI army agents or whoever they were just stormed my house. After about ninety seconds of pure silence, the one with a shining silver badge walked up to me and started to speak.
"We are going to need you to come with us, son," He said, with a burly, raspy voice.
"Why? What are you clods here for?" I said, trying to act tough even though my whole body had turned to gelatin.
"You'd better watch your tongue young man," One of the officers said, reaching for some sort of weapon in his vest pocket. The guy with the silver badge held his hand up at the other officer, signaling for him to be at rest.
"Please cooperate with the procedures, it will make it easier for both you and me," He said, reaching out at me. I flinched, looking down at the floor. I was trembling uncontrollably. It was obvious the man was losing his patience. He grabbed me by the wrist, yanking me like an animal towards the door. I winced and yipped in pain because of his tight grip.
I was shoved into the back of a large black van. I was immediately locked into a chair, soon after my arms, legs, and neck were all bolted in with metal straps.
"Wh-what's happening?" I asked, in complete fear at this point. I waited for an answer, but none came. All I got was stares from blank, mask-faced hooligans. Soon, someone walked up to me that didn't have a mask nor battle equipment on him; instead he had a pure white lab coat on and neatly combed hair. This guy is nothing like anyone I had ever seen before. His eyes were bright blue, but not piercing. They had a look to them that honest to god calmed me down. His hair was as black as my eyes, with a striking blue streak going down the left side of his face. I really liked his hair. He was a lot taller than me, probably a foot and a half taller. His right ear was pierced with a single black stud earring. What was this guy, a rebel doctor? Whoever he was, he scared me the least out of everyone I'd seen so far.
"I'm going to need you to stay still," He said in a calm, soothing voice, completely different from the rugged officers. I listed to his command, as he injected something into me.
"This is just an anesthetic, it'll keep you calm and asleep until we arrive at our destination," He said, with a reassuring smile. I kept my eyes on the guy as my vision blurred in and out, and my eyes fluttered until I fell into a deep sleep.
When I awoke, I was strapped into something else. I struggled, but I was tightened extremely tight. This time I was lying down, and when I looked around, it seemed I was in some high-class scientific hospital for the mentally insane. There were bright white lights surrounding me, medical tools of all sorts sitting on multiple tables surrounding the surface I was lying on. Yeah, this seemed like a normal medical hospital until I realized what was actually happening to me. When I fully came to, I realized there were multiple tubes going into my body from everywhere. On the bottom of my feet, my palms, up my nose, down my throat, from the nape of my neck, and just about all over were plastic tubes ranging from the size of my pinkie to my bicep shoved under my skin. My eyes got wide as I saw different types of terrifying liquid flowing into my body.
I started to scream, as much as I could at least. I wiggled my body back and forth, ignoring the stabbing pain coming from all over. I soon heard a pair of what sounded like metal doors burst open to my left.
"Hey! You need to calm down Radon!" A familiar voice said in panic. Wait, Radon? Who's that?
"You can seriously injure yourself if you struggle too much, this phase is almost over I promise," The man said. He was the one from earlier that gave me the anesthetic. I looked over at him in fear and anger. I couldn't speak because of the tube going down my throat, but I tried to give him the best "Please explain what is happening" look I could. Surprisingly, he took the hint.
"Oh, right, you have no idea what's happening. Well for starters, your name is Radon now because that's the main chemical your blood is being replaced with. It's just easier to keep track of you all that way. Ok, I'm going to try to keep this brief. You were brought here because your physique matched a certain standard for this test. We're trying to see if humans can survive with element based liquid instead of blood in case something out of the ordinary happened. Now don't worry, you aren't at risk. You just need to rest, I'll be back to check on you later," He said, lightly ruffling my hair before walking out.
This guy was the only one I could trust.
After a bit of time, I was soon released from the painful tubes I was attached to. I was escorted by someone I didn't know to another room, which looked like a normal bedroom.
"Wh... what is this?" I asked in a raspy voice. The guard that transported me said nothing and slammed the door behind him as he left. I stood in shock as to what happened. The doors soon opened again when the same guy from earlier walked in.
"So, how are you doing?" He asked casually, like he never saw me in that lab room.
I wanted to say something smart but I wanted to be on this guy's good side. "I-I'm doing fine, just a little shocked," I said, nervously wringing my hands.
"Well don't you worry too much," He said smiling. "You've got a long visit ahead of you."
I still had no idea who this tall guy was.
"Wh-who are you exactly?" I asked in a whispery voice. I really didn't know if that information was "classified" or whatever.
"Oh, I'm sorry I haven't quite introduced myself quite yet. My name is Gemini, and I'll be your caretaker for the time you're in this facility," this Gemini said, flashing a warming smile.
I seriously did feel safe around this strange and slightly attractive guy. He was the only one who hadn't given me a bruise yet. Put some emphasis on yet. He told me that he was going to help me move and get around, which seriously freaked me out.
"I can do things perfectly on my own!" I exclaimed at him. "I have no need for your assistance..." I said, looking down and scowling at the floor.
"Look, putting the elements we are into your body is going to do some serious damage on your bones and brain cells. And muscles," Gemini stated sympathetically, putting his hand lightly on my shoulder.
"What... What are you talking about?!" I asked frantically. "Does this mean I'm going to die?"
"N-no not necessarily, you'll just be temporarily disabled." He said, with a weak smile.
"And how long is 'temporarily' exactly?" I asked angrily.
Gemini looked at me nervously. What was he going to say? I wish I hadn't asked about it, because of the nervous look he gave me I kind of don't want to find out.
"Well... I don't really know. It depends on how long it takes for me to nurse you back to normal," He sighed, looking down at me with pity.
"I-I don't need someone like you to take care of me! It's not like you're my girlfriend!" I yelled, clenching my fist and giving him the coldest, hardest look I could give him, which I regretted immediately.
Gemini looked taken aback, and I swore I saw his eyes moisten a bit. He soon looked less cheerful and very down. The glimmering look in his eyes completely faded, and they looked almost grey in color. He looked me dead in the eyes and said,
"Die, then"
He turned around and stormed out the door, slamming the heavy metal doors behind him. I stood in complete and utter shock. He had never acted that way before now, and it sort of scared me.
"To hell with you then, I don't need you!" I screamed at the door, but I had no idea why I had begun to cry.
I slumped over on the floor, silently crying into my hands, the whole situation finally setting in. I was trapped in this weird facility, most likely never seeing my friends or family ever again. For some reason however, it ticked me off the most that I may now be enemies with the only person I could tolerate. The next day came, and I was woken by some guy screaming like a banshee monkey. I was ordered to go to my next phase.
"Come with me, we are going to need you to wear these robes," A woman who looked like a normal nurse said, handing me a pure white bathrobe.
I followed her orders, and after a bit of walking, we came to one of the scariest, science looking, mega rooms I had ever seen in my entire life. I was forced to strip down completely, and was placed in a big glass machine that looked like it was for a new alien specimen. Come to think of it, I guess that's what I am now. I now run on Radon, Uranium, and Plutonium, as I was told by the nurse lady on the way down to Phase 2. I stepped inside the machine and what they told me would happen was the worst thing I'd ever heard.
"This is the final phase, where most of your brain cells, knowledge, and ability to move will be evaporated. The reason we are doing this is so it can be replaced with the new cells that fit your new bloodstream better. Your IQ will be reduced to that equivalent of a one year old child. This will only be temporary; Gemini will nurse you back to health. These effects do wear off faster than aging." A doctor with a gas mask and hazmat suit on said into a microphone, which was also inside the machine.
There was no getting out of it. This was it, the day I lose everything. I didn't even resist, I knew it would be useless. They started up the machine, and I blacked out immediately. I don't really remember much that happened, besides the disappointed voices of the doctors I heard when I was slowly waking up.
"I think he's still breathing,"
"Doesn't matter, he wasn't worth it anyway,"
"Why did they even accept him as a specimen? His body's too weak,"
I wondered what was happening. Why are they so mad? Why were they so disappointed in the results?
What happened for the next few hours was a complete blur. I was moved quickly to a couple rooms, until I was set down in one last one.
"Radon, can you hear us?" A man with a stocky build and burly mustache asked me.
"N...no... wh..." I tried to talk, but I couldn't. My mind went completely blank.
I kept asking myself, what does "hear" mean? Who were they talking to? Were they talking to me or is there someone else here? I couldn't remember how to do anything. I didn't know how to speak, how to walk, my vision and my hearing were low also.
I felt like the world completely forgot about me.
I felt like I couldn't respond to anything.
This feeling... there was no way to describe it.
I felt... like an alien, someone that was unfamiliar with life itself.
I felt dead.
