Paige's P.O.V

I woke up gasping for precious air. I was in a cornfield, my hands stained with blood.

"Did I really do this?"

I was angry and scared at the same time. Who in the world would do that? But who in the world would obey?

"You were forced to Paige, it wasn't your fault"

Thats what Thomas would say.

"Thomas?"

Where was he? I panicked. What if he was taken? What if he was dead?

I heard something in the distance, and quickly got to my feet.

"THOMAS!" I yelled.

The cornfield was high and I couldn't see anything.

Again, another call in the distance. A faint talk, in which I could just make out as:

"Paige? Where are you?"

For a second it didn't sound like Thomas. But a man. A deep adult voice. I shook my head, I must have been hearing things.

"Don't be silly, It's him... hopefully"

I began to go towards the voice. It was not far now.

"Paige? Come here sweetie!"

This time I knew it was not him. He had never or will ever call me sweetie. I turned around, about to run. A hand tried to grab me but because I began to run clawed at my shoulder.

I sped off, running as fast as I could. I heard footsteps behind me.

I was being followed.

I went the way I came from. West.  I followed the sunrise. There was the silohoute in the distance. A tree.

"Go to the tree Paige."

By the time I reached the tree they were far behind. Up close I realised what tree this was.

The willow tree.

I slipped inside the under-part of the tree. Under the roots. Only I could fit in that hole, Thomas was now too big. But before we left we created a secret entrance.

Now I was hidden. I could only see out of the small cracks in the roots.

I held my breath when I heard rustling outside.

"She must be around here somewhere, keep looking."

"What about the boy?" Another voice said, "he ran this way too."

"Look for him as well, he'll be easier to catch. The little girl is fast."

"Little girl."

I made an angry look. But then my face lit up. Thomas hadn't been caught. Yet.

I lay down once the footsteps grew faint.

My legs ached from running so much and I was starving.

There was a bush in the hole, a berry bush. But all the berries were dried out. Of course.

Thomas and I had added it the day we left.

"He must have known the berries would have dried out. He probably still did it for me."

There was more rustling outside and I came to a dead stop. Was I being too loud?

A man slipped down the second hole and I jumped.

Thomas.
