Paige's P.O.V
I thought I had lost him. I thought I would never see him again. Yet here we were. Intwined in a hug.
"Are you hurt?" Thomas asked, pulling out of the hug to start inspecting me for any bruises or cuts.
"I'm fine... what about you?" I responded.
"Fine... I'm fine."
I noticed a cut on his shoulder.
"Thomas... you are not alright!" I said a little loudly.
"I am... it doesn't hurt. Don't worry."
I sat back down and started to cry, I was so confused... so helpless.
"Oh don't cry Paige..." Thomas moaned.
"I can't help it," I said quietly.
"I know you can't, we just have to be strong about this," he replied hugging me again.
"I wish mother was still here, she would know what to do..."
"Thats right!"
"What?"
"What would mother do?"
"Well she'd..." I stopped to think for a moment, "She'd set up a camp and plan out what she was going to do next."
"Exactly. But first I think we should try to figure out a safe way to get supplies without being seen."
"Ok..." I shuffled my feet, "Well, we could make a tree house high up in the tree... but when it comes to a full moon... nevermind."
Thomas twidled his thumbs, "we could stay here for now."
"Yes..." I agreed, I was still thinking and revising what happened.
What happened last night?
I decided not to ask Thomas, he wouldn't know either.
My stomach growled and I realised I was still straving.
"We need food," Thomas said, moving over to the entrance.
He first banged with his fist on the side of the entry way, making it big enough for him.
"I'll go out to look for food..." he said looking back at me, "can you improve safety on our hut?"
"Oh- ok" I said, half wanting to go get food too.
As he left I stared around our hut for a bit, thinking of what I could do to improve it. I decided on some things I could do right now, like making a store-place for food.
Inside our hut I dug a hole by the side, and then make it bigger and deeper. I then looked at the sides of the hut, there were heaps of holes that someone could spot us through. Using some sticks, twine and leaves from the tree, I covered them up, leaving one or two small ones to look through.
The door.
I made a small door from the sticks, twine and leaves making the door able to open and close. I also made a little latch so we could hook it closed from the inside.
It was getting late, and Thomas wasn't back yet. I started to worry.
Has he been taken? Whats taking him so long? Did he get any food?
I was waiting with burning questions. But I decided to keep myself busy, weaving a blanket with the leftover twine.
Mother had taught me how to weave,
"My mother taught me when I was young, and my grandmother taught my mother. Its been passed on to every woman in the family, if you have a daughter can you promise me to teach her too?"
"Yes." I said quietly.
Thomas came back into the hut, looking tired and worn-out.
"Did you get anything?" I asked, laying the twine blanket down.
"No," Thomas breathed, I looked down and bit my lip.
"I see you have made improvements," Thomas said pointing to the hole.
"Yeah." I said shortly.
We lay down and put the blanket over us, it wasn't the best but it helped.
I don't think either of us slept that night.
