Chapter 6: School (Nate POV)

School was anything but fun. You sat around, either bored and stressed about constant work. Work that was pointless and really couldn't be applied in the real world. And it was only that easy if you had a solid social life. If not, then you'd also be facing constant ridicule from your peers.

I had walked to school, like I usually did. I wore my normal attire with an added red beanie to top it off. The school was big but older. Its last renovation was in the early nineties, if that. It was made of brick and was completely indoor. The inside was bright and boring much like hospital halls. Each main hall had two rows of grey lockers on both sides of the walls.

I had walked through the crowded area to reach my locker, watching as many of the students had their normal day to day conversations. Some would goof off, make noise, laugh and such while others were more quiet and reserved as well as the stray loner who was either new, shy, or labelled a weirdo.

As I glanced through the people, I saw him. Sam.

A smile came to my lips as I got lost in those beautiful eyes. Sam had been conversating with his usual group of friends. It mostly consisted of undefinables. Kids who really didnt fit into a specific clique but still amassed a group due to a strong personality and a unique sense of style. You could call it alternative, I guess.

I was lost staring at Sam until I felt my own friend lightly putting a hand on my shoulder and whispering in my ear.

"Who ya fallin' for, Nate?" The man asked curiously.

  I blushed and growled softly.

  "None of your buisness!"

He blinked and we both glared at one another. There was a moment of silence before we bursted out laughing.

"Hey Jack." I finally greeted, still lightly chuckling.

"Yo, yo. So, who you starin' at exactly." He asked, recovering from his own laugh as well.

I turned to face the other, smiling softly. Jack was a large man. He was roughly six feet five inches tall. He was insanely muscular. He obviously worked out. No doubt in my mind. He had a light tan and deep hazel eyes. He had well defined, sharp features. A strong jawline, piercing eyes, sharp eyebrows even, and thin, but nice lips. He wore a white t-shirt with a black leather jacket, black jeans, and red converse. His hair was black and slicked over to one side to reveal he had an undercut.

"Sam... " I mumble out. "I'm looking at Sam."

Jack gave me a weird look, obviously surprised that someone like me would be interested in someone like Sam.

  "What is it?" I ask.

"Well, I didnt expect you to... be into guys."

  "I like girls too."

"Yeah, I guess, but still... Sam? I wouldn't have thought." Jack stated in an awkward tone.

  "What's wrong with Sam?"

"Nothin, he's just on a different side of the school then us and none of us really know much 'bout him."

"You'd be surprised about how interesting he is." I replied.

My eyes glancing back to stare at Sam, who was actually laughing in the distance. He was beautiful when he laughed. I mean... he's beautiful all the time, but his laugh is mesmerizing.

Jack smirked a little and shrugged in response.

"I guess you're right. Wanna go get some breakfast or somethin'?" He asked curiously.

I slowly nod, staring at Sam a moment longer before heading to the lunchroom with my friend. He was talking about his day but I just droned off, thinking about Sam. All I could imagine was kissing him, holding him down on my bed as he kissed me back. Feeling his fingers lock into my hair as I-

"Yo, Nate, you listenin' or what?" Jack asked with that Brooklyn accent of his.

He was a lot like a greaser. It was appealing, in an odd way.

I clicked back to reality, blinking a couple of times as I slowly nod.

  "Yeah, I was listening."

  "Liar." Jack frowned.

I frowned as well, feeling bad.

"I'm sorry Jack, but I... can't stop thinking about him, ya know?"

Jack sighed and nodded with a small smile as we got in the cafeteria lunch line. The food was kind of gross, but it was bearable. We had grown used to it so we didn't pay much mind as we grabbed a boxed bowl of cereal and some shitty rip off milk brand.

"Ya know, Nate, Sam being a guy doesn't change my advice."

I glanced over at Jack questionably.

  "What do you mean?"

We sat down at a circular empty table and he sighed, shrugging as he focused on opening the film on his heavily processed froot loops rip off.

"They can make our minds clouded. If we aren't careful, they can wrap us around their finger." Jack explained.

I stared, slowly shaking my head.

"Sam's not like that." I defended.

"Oh come on Nate, don't be a dumb ass. You think you're the first person to ever think that? There have been people who've been in much deeper and more committed relationships who have thought that and were totally dumped on their poor asses."

  I look down, slowly nodding.

"Yeah, I guess you're right. I'll be careful." I finally agreed.

Jack smiled proudly, nodding quickly and lightly punching my shoulder in an encouraging manner.

"That's my boy! Im glad you are catching on!"

I slowly nod and smile. I had opened my film and poured milk into the tiny bowl of cereal and began to eat before I felt a presence beside me and a questionable look on Jacks face.

I blinked and slowly glanced over to see Sam. He sat there blankly but slowly grew visibly nervous as he felt both of our stares fall on him.

Jack then glanced at me, expecting me to know what to do. I was clueless though, simply staring back at Jack and shrugging before we both laid our eyes back on Sam.

"What? Am I not allowed to sit here?" He asked.
