A/N:
This project is very important to me and I eventually want this to be published. Because of this, the updates are most likely going to be very sporadic and rare. I plan on having this project extremely plotted and planned out. I want each word to be important, and to do that it will be very time consuming. So if you have an issue with far and few updates, than this is not for you. I stress this.
Anyway, this began as a vague idea floating in the far recesses of my mind, born of a rant of my mother when I was very young. I held this idea close to my heart as I molded and crafted, giving shape to the clay thoughts. Even still I have a far way to go, as only the outline is clear, the figure fuzzy.
But to pave the road, I must first find its niche. So, to encourage my continuation and focus on this idea, I'm giving myself a deadline.
I have to post the first chapter by January 30th, my birthday.
If I don't, than you can decide my punishment.
(Holy shit. I am the least motivated person in the world. Holy shit.)
Moving on.
Here's a little bit of a blurb.
Branded
Imagine a world where criminals roam freely through the streets. The word "prison" lies dusty and in shadows. Instead, the crime they have committed is forever stained upon their forehead. Revolutionary tattoo ink, it cannot be covered and it cannot be removed, bar cutting away the skin all the way to the skull bone. No one can hide from their transgressions, they will be marked and every one will be able to see them for what the are: evil. Every criminal is found. Wonderful, is it not? No more time wasted in wondering if your creepy neighbor really is a kid toucher. However, there is no fair Jury Trial. No dispute of circumstantial evidence. No gavel wielding judge. Courts are lost to the past. Who decides on innocence, when no one, not even you, can defend yourself? Nothing is so black and white, yet nothing is questioned.
Cat Galahad teaches history to high schoolers, children on the brink of adulthood. Young and brilliant, she strives to guide her students the best she can. Her life is simple, monotonous really, until her brother is murdered. Stripped of her only family, she is allowed no closure. She isn't even granted the right to see her brother, to identify him. And funerals are illegal.
Cat is consumed in her grief and anger, channeling her energy into hating each and every wandering criminal, knowing that one of them, one of them killed her brother.
Her anguish endures until one night she is attacked by a group of "tattys". However she is rescued by a hooded man, another tatty.
Cat is thrust into an awakening, causing her to question all of her previous beliefs. A fire is started in her heart as she is given a way, while treacherous and obscure, to avenge her brother and revolutionize her country.
Hayden Daniels is a broken man living in damp doorways and the warmest alleys he can find. Living off of scraps found in dumpsters and restuarant throwaways, everything has been taken from him. Treated no better than the rats that steal his food, he can only find work at the docks for 1.67 an hour. Work so dangerous and vile, it would be better if he didn't work all. He has no rights, no chance. No hope. All because of his skin.
Black and crude, the words trace his forehead, forever branded: MURDERER.
