Erik's POV
Had I known Christine's marriage was an arranged one, I wouldn't have fought so hard for her. Had I known that her father had gone bankrupt and in order to save his only daughter's future, partnered her up with a rich boy from a well known family, I might have let her be. Had I known that our love was forbidden and hopeless, I may have let her go.
But.....
I didn't know. No one knew. Christine had mentioned her father's wishes for her to marry Raoul, but I didn't know that Christine's father had paid the deChangy family to wed Raoul and Christine.
After a long time, rehearsals were well under way. Things quieted down around the Opera House. Christine had loved him, as a child, because he had dove into the sea to rescue her favorite red scarf. Then, after she had moved here, Raoul and Christine grew apart. For their love was a childish crush, no real romance between them.
When they were reunited a year or so ago, Christine and Raoul learned of the deal between their parents. They soon feel into the rhythm of old friends, he loved her immensely. Yet, Christine loved me.
If I had known any of this, I still would've fought for her, despite the pain that would come in the end. Even though she was bound to Raoul, I still wanted her.
Did I regret fighting for her? Did I regret falling so deeply in love that our souls became one? How could I? How could I resent the love that saved me and condemned me? It was my choice to play with fire, I should've known it was only a matter of time before I got burned.
