"I just don't understand why you're suspecting of me. I would never try to harm a kit."
It was dark, a long away before dawn would rise. Two cats conversed next to the river, sparkling in the moonlight. It was a sight that was so beautiful, it was comparable to how Silverpelt would shine. The glow from the river barely illuminated the dark fur from the two cats, as the conversation took a more stressful turn.
"How should I know that? You let Larkkit go off on their own."
"He said he was going to stay close to the camp!"
"Trusting the 'wise' words from a kit drowned him."
One cat flinched, as if they gave them a sharp blow to the nose. They stayed silent for a long moment. They had no time to think of something to say, anything, because the other was already continuing.
"I don't trust you around any kits, let alone mine. I expect you to be responsible, and I won't let you have another try at this. The whole clan will know what you have done."
"I have done nothing!" The second cat exclaimed, shock filling their expression. "Larkkit was not my fault! And you're acting like I'm going to be the one to decide on your kit's lives! I have absolutely nothing to do with them!"
A low growl rose from the first one's throat, causing the second's speech to be cut short. The first stalked over to the second, glowering down at them.
"I'm giving you a warning. You will stay away from my kits. If you do happen to interact with them, you can never let them do what Larkkit had done. Anything that should happen to them will be entirely your cause."
The second's shocked expression turned to fear as the first snarled, unsheathing their claws. Before they had the chance to retreat, a sharp slice to the nose made them yelp like a kit, and they backed up.
"That's your warning. Tell no one about this." Before they could respond, the other cat turned around, walking away, to the direction of the camp. They felt their scratch sting, and the tickling sensation of blood dropped by their mouth. They simply sighed, following the other back to the camp.
