I woke up the next day all cuddled up with Ahmad. A blush came to my face when I stole a few glances of Ahmad sleeping silently next to me. He looked so peaceful breathing softly. I gently touched his soft cheeks and his beard. I don't know what possessed me to kiss his cheek.
He stirred and opened his eyes and smiled at me.
"I never imagined it'd be this nice to wake up beside my loving wife." He said as I reddened at the intimacy. He kissed my forehead and sat up. "We should get ready soon before everyone comes knocking on our door."
I chuckled, but got up too. I picked out a blue dress with a little help from Ahmad. I took a shower and changed into my dress. I let my straight hair flow to my waist. It was very difficult to do makeup while standing in front of the mirror with the kit in one hand and a brush in the other.
"You should buy a dressing table for me. It is very difficult to do my makeup." I said to Ahmad as he came out of the washroom all dressed up in his blue and white Kameez Shalwar. He looked so handsome that I stared at him for a while without even blinking my eyes. He watched me the same way. The only difference was he snapped out of his bubble way before I did.
"What?" He raised his eyebrows at me in confusion. He nodded after getting what I had said. "You don't have to do makeup. You are already so beautiful."
He came closer and hugged me from behind. I smiled in return. We stared at our reflection in the mirror until someone knocked on the door.
"Bhai, are you ready?" It was Sana.
"Yeah, come on in." He called as he created a small distance between us.
She came in dressed decently in a gown. She gawked at us before hastily looking away.
"You guys look good together. But that's not what I came to say, mom is freaking out on all of us. She asked me to bring you both down otherwise you won't come." She said with a frown clearly annoyed with the work she had to do because of the wedding.
"You go; we are coming right after you." He reassured her. I kept silent in their conversation. She raised her eyebrow for a second, but after getting glare from her brother, she left without saying a word.
"Shall we leave?" I chuckled at his gentle words but nodded. I quickly gave myself a final touch and he held me by my waist as we made way downstairs. I could feel the glares from the ladies.
Can't they hold off their stares for just one day? Even my mother-in-law tried to coax me in wrapping my head a little, but I was just like a stubborn little kid whose mind was set on getting candy.
"Zaina, why don't you cover your head a little?" She whispered to me, but most of the girls around me heard it. Their snickers depressed my mood. I shrugged it off and smiled as a newly wedded bride would smile.
I met with his whole family. Ahmad's father smiled at me the same way he did before. He greeted me with a supplication. Rabya was another person whom I met with whole heartedly. She was Ahmad's sister-in-law, Qasim bhai's wife. She was a nice girl. I wished we become good friends soon. Ahmad remained by my side the whole time.
The house was full with guests who wanted to meet me personally. I was tired by the time we had lunch.
By the dinner time, it was only a few of the girls from Ahmad's side. Everyone else had left or had more important things to do. Not that I didn't mind. I was happy not to be the center of attention of all the ladies. One of the girls sat next to me and started chatting.
