"You mustn't talk like that, Lunna!" My mother cries. I snort.
"Talk like what, a normal being?" She gapes at me.
"Why I oughta-"
"Ah ah ah, you promised not to yell today." I say, softly. Linida's face reddens in anger. I turn back to the clothes, smirking to myself. Why not push her a bit farther? "Honestly, woman, you're so temperamental." I flip to the next picture on the screen, sighing in exasperation. "I don't like any of these. I'll just wear my uniform." Linida huffs.
"You can't just pick something? Not even a dress?" I raise my eyebrows at her.
"I don't like these, I'm not going to wear them." I say, more childish than anything. Linida groans.
"Fine. Fine. Wear the uniform. Just take the blazer off." I raise an eyebrow at her.
"Why?"
"Just take the damned thing off!" She nearly shouts. I smirk and take my green blazer off, revealing my white blouse, tucked into my plaid skirt. I feel exposed without it, my arms itching to feel the fabric brush against them. Linida continuously made silly requests, just to try and piss me off. Her requests backfired and usually made her angry, instead of myself. Her underlying harsh comments were usually what got to me. She flips her blonde hair over her shoulder and glares at me with her dark brown eyes. Her common looks are not surprising. Either is the fact that I look nothing like her. Her stick straight blonde hair goes with society's norm, whereas I can often flick my wavy black hair off my shoulders. Her oval face, though her features are sharper than most, still fit into the norm, mine, though still within the norm, are a bit softer than most. Her eyes, large and doe-like with thin eyelashes, have never quite fit in with what they say people should have in order to look perfect, my eyes had taken on the feminine almond shape, surrounded by thick eyelashes. Her lips set the standard for the looks, though they are thin and a pale, pale pink a few years ago, her modification surgery, they were plump, and always bright, stripper red. The women loved it, painting their lips on ruby red. My lips had always been pink and plump, no need for modification. Our noses were the same, though, small, like normal people's. My pale complexion could not compete with her naturally beach tanned skin. When I walked with Linida, I was not like my sisters. With their perfect bodies and perfectly styled hair. They were the girls I could never be. They were the "perfect" one's. I was not. Perhaps that's why Linida resented me. Maybe it was the fact that she had no clue as to how to shower a baby that wasn't yours with the love you felt for your other children. Maybe she never really tried. Maybe she never really wanted to.
I'm pulled from my thoughts by a shrill demand. "You need different shoes!" She sashays over to the port, quickly scrolling through about half of their inventory. She turns to me suddenly, "You sure you don't want another outfit? Your uniform makes you look kinda fat." I open my mouth to retaliate but she continues on, "Actually, any outfit would show off your pudge." She tosses dark green lace-up boots at me at me. "Maybe these'll help." I slip them on, slowly. She watches as I stand up, inspecting my outfit. "Nope, I was wrong." She walks off, leaving me to debate on whether or not to take them off. I decide to keep them, following after her. I match her pace walking beside her.
"Can't we just go home?" I whine at her.
"No, now stop slouching, stand up straight. When you slouch, it shows your rolls." I scoff at her. "Let's go look at dresses." I scan my wrist and the shoes on my way out, paying quickly as Linida glides from the store. I follow her, into the morning mist. Why anyone would want to shop at seven in the morning beats the hell out of me. I sigh and follow her to the small dress shop across the way. She strolls right in, claiming a large room for us in the back. The port comes out to meet her and she's ready for it, typing in the wrong measurements into it, quickly.
