'Coupe chasse, tomlevae, run run step leap'.
I tried to get the steps in my head, but they kept getting mixed up with other excersises. I need to get this perfect. My exam is coming up and I am aiming to get a perfect score so that I can win a scholarship to take class at the Royal Ballet Academy, which would be a dream come true. I need to get this right, but I just can't.
"Chloe! Focus! This is excersise is a piece of cake. You need to take a deep breath, and do it right. 5,6,7,8" Said Miss Jane, my dance teacher.
The music started, and I did the excersise, fumbling on the last step but other than that it was alright.
"Better" Said Miss Jane. "Go home, rest and think over that excersise. Your exam is in three weeks, and you need to be perfect to get this scholarship! When you come back tomorrow, you need to have nailed this excersise or say goodbye to the scholarship."
Miss Jane is very strict, but she is a marvellous teacher and has taught me ever since I can remember. I went home, and practiced even more.
The next day, I woke up, and got ready for my pilates class. I do correspondence school with my friend Grace so that we can spend more time dancing. After my pilates class I did my schoolwork, then got ready for dancing. Today I have a Ballet private, Tap, Contemporary, Jazz and my regular Ballet class. My Ballet private went very well, and I remembered the excersise. In Contemporary, we were doing a combination and I did a barrel roll and came down on my ankle funny, but I thought nothing of it and kept on dancing. Throughout Jazz my ankle continued to ache but it wasn't going to stop me. Then the pain really kicked in during my Ballet class. My ankle stuck in one position and I couldn't move it. It was purple, and hurt terribly. Miss Jane called my mum, who took me to the emergency doctor.
The wait for the X-ray results was agonising. I just hoped like crazy that it wasn't broken.
"Chloe Clarke?" The nurse summoned me.
My mum pushed me in my wheelchair to the doctor's office.
"Hello Chloe! So we got the results for your ankle."
He pulled up the X-ray.
"Now if you look closely, you will see that there is a slight fracture in your lower Fibula bone. This is will heal easily, but it will take time and allot of rest."
No! No way would i rest it! My exam is coming up in just over 4 weeks and i need to be perfect for then! This is my only opportunity to win that scholarship, and a broken ankle isn't going to stop me.
"I'm sorry, but there's no way i can stay off it. I have a big dance exam coming up and..."
"Its only four weeks that you will need to stay off it."He said. "If you rest it well, it should be healed by then."
"But my exam is in four weeks! This is a big opportunity for me and i can't miss out on it!"
"Well you'll have to see if there is any way it can be pushed back. I'm really sorry, but this is all in the interest of your health and safety. If you want to be back dancing soon, you need to follow my orders. If not, your ankle could run the risk of being permanently injured. Now, I'll go and get my supplies to put you in a cast."
Tears streamed down my face. What if my ankle doesn't heal in time!? Cast or no cast, i am going to sit my exam. But for now, I'm just going to focus on getting better.
