Chapter 1: Dating Again?
Cassandra's POV (point of view)
"C'mon Cassie get ready!" my mum yelled at me again, "No, I don't want to go!" I told her flopping back on my bed. I shut my eyes tight and curled into a ball not wanting to move, "You're coming if I have to drag you there!" my mum stormed into my room and ripped the covers off of me, exposing my pyjama clad body to the cold morning air and causing goose bumps to rise on my arms.
I felt tears come to my eyes as I buried my head into my pillow; my mum had met someone new again! I turned and looked at the dark glare she had fixed on me, her eyes softened as she saw the crystals spilling from my eyes, "I know this is hard for you Cassie but it's time I moved on," she said sitting on the edge of my bed. I sniffed and sat up, hugging my pillow to my chest, "but I don't want you to move on, I want dad back," I whispered; I was 16 and I knew I was being selfish but I hadn't taken the breakup of my parents too well. It was five years ago but I was and always would be a daddy's girl, my mum had won custody over me when they got the divorce and I hadn't seen my dad for three years now.
"Steven is a great guy and his Chresanto seems nice from what Steven has said," my mum explained and I rolled my eyes, "Just like all the other kids I have been forced to get along with? It's just going to be the same as always mum," I grumbled and she sighed. I looked away, drying my eyes, and stared at the photo of the three of us on my bedside table, I remembered the day as if it was yesterday. It was summer when I was five and we'd gone to the local pool, the picture was of all of us sliding down a giant waterslide together, we'd been so happy. "I just want us to be a family again, like we used to be," I mumbled quietly, my voice cracking as the tears ceased, "I know but that isn't going to happen anytime soon is it Cassie? Please do this hunny...for me?" my mum begged. I stared at the wall as I thought about it, I had always been hard headed and stubborn but I wanted my mum to be happy, "fine," I gave in reluctantly. I'd do it for her.
Roc Royal's POV
"Really dad? Another woman?" I asked, "Yes. Now I want you to be polite to her and her daughter," my dad said fixing his tie in the mirror and straightening out his shirt. I stopped pacing and caught the basketball I was bouncing before looking up at him, "daughter?" I questioned disgusted, I hoped she wasn't some snotty nosed three year old who would run around screaming all the time. "Yes. Cassandra is the same age as you and you two WILL get along," he said sternly, "what? How is that even fair? What if she's a total bit-" he cut me off mid-rant. "we do NOT use that kind of language in this house, especially not to describe family," my dad scorned me and I rolled my eyes, "she's not family, I don't even know her!" I argued but he ignored me, pushing past me to get downstairs. "pull up your trousers too, they'll be here in a minute!" he said before starting down the stairs, "it's the style dad!" I yelled back before walking to my room.
I flicked on my docking station and shut my door with a slam, how many girlfriends would this make after mum? Like...twenty...no, probably more. There was Melissa, Dorathy, Constance, Amy, Carla, Lily, Michelle, Rayanne...I went through the list until I heard the doorbell ring, "That's them, turn down that damn stereo!" my dad yelled as he hurried downstairs to get the door. I sighed as I flicked my radio off and went and sat at the top of the stairs to watch from a distance.
My dad opened the door, "Linda, how good to see you," my dad greeted his new girlfriend and kissed each of her cheeks before turning to the girl standing next to Linda, "and you must be Cassandra! I've heard so much about you," my dad said in an all too cheery tone that made me want to throw up. "I prefer Cassie," a glum, unbothered voice drifted into the house, it must have been Linda's daughter. She sounded like my kinda girl, I liked a sassy girl with a bit of attitude.
"Chresanto get down here!" my thoughts were interrupted by my dad's demanding voice, "coming!" I yelled back before sliding down the banister and landing at the bottom of the stairs. I strolled casually over to him, "use the actual stairs next time," my dad warned me under his breath.
