I'm Half A Heart Without You

Chapter 4

"I wouldn't call it a threat. A caution, maybe." His words sent a chill down my spine.

I hadn't realized what I did until after I did it and he was holding his cheek. His grip on my wrist released. I quickly made my way up the stairs and into my bedroom. After I entered the room, I shut the door. Out of breath, I pressed my back up against the door.

Not long after, I heard footsteps approaching my room. I walked over to my desk and pulled out a pair of scissors to use for defense. As the door opened, I raised the scissors up.

"Woah woah woah. It's just me! No need to be all defensive!" said Michael.

"Michael! I thought you were coming home later,' I said as I slowly put the scissors down.

"I wanted to surprise everyone."

"Well you sure did surprise me," I said as I hugged him. Michael had been away for at least 4 months.

"I have goodish, baddish news." He pulled away from the hug and continued, "I kinda got kicked out of boot camp."

"How is that good?!"

"I get to stay at home!" He said, mocking my higher pitched voice.

"Wait, how'd you get up here? Did Harry leave?" I asked.

"Who's Harry?" Michael replied, obviously confused.

"He's around your height, has brown curly hair, did you see him?"

"I have no clue what you're talking about."

I sighed. Harry must've left when Michael came inside.

After talking to Michael for an hour, he left. He told me all about how he kept a little picture of him, Rosy and I with him. Closing the front door behind him, I realized something was wrong. Something was different. It was quiet in the house. Too quiet.

"Mom? Sophie?" I said, hoping for a response.

Nothing.

"Mom???"

Nothing.

I walked over to the basement door and shouted down the stairs, "Sophie?! Mom?! You down there?!"

Nothing.

Suddenly, I felt a strong, familiar hand clamp over my mouth and an arm wrap around my waist as I was shoved backwards into a solid figure.
