Chapter 1 - How it all started

I knew from the moment it happened that it would be impossible to forget. I spent 6 years trying to forbid that torturous memory, but that night still haunts me. I'm 15 now. There isn't one night where I'm rewarded a peaceful sleep. It invades my mind, replaying every image of everything that occurred; so exact, so precise. But it just intensifies my anger and strengthens my hatred. It all started from that night. That awful, wretched night.

There was a storm outside. The lightning lusted for death and the thunder threatened to destroy. But the rain drops were peaceful, soothing everything it touched. The thunder, lightning and rain were so different from each other, yet when they were combined they create something powerful. A husky voice interrupted my train of thought; I knew that voice all too well.

"Get out of my house. Now." My dad said in such a tone that it sent a shiver down my spine.

"You want me out? Fine. But she's coming with me." my mom challenged back.

"Leave her out of this." he growled.  He clenched his jaw and his hands turned into a fist and that's when it happened. He slapped her.

My mom laid on the floor, a hand clutched to her cheek and tears pouring out of her eyes, as she watched my dad in shock. I looked him straight in the eye. There was so much hatred and disgust in him that it could have made hell tremble. There was a moment of silence; no-one moved. Then he turned his head and looked at me dead in the eye and said four words that I hated so much. Four words that changed me. Four words that haunted me for all eternity.

"This is your fault."

My vision blurred and I quickly realized I was crying. I ran out of the house at inhuman speed. It was still raining and my clothes were soon soaking wet but I didn't care. The rain helped calm me. I ran until I collapsed, completely out of breath. The rain mixed with my tears. It felt as if the sky knew my pain, trying to soothe me with its unspoken voice.

But a siren brought me back to reality. There were police cars and ambulances heading in the direction of my house. Fear started to consume me. I ran back at full speed regardless of how tired I was. What I came to see completely devastated me. I pushed my way through the paramedics but what I saw wasn't an illusion, it was real. There was my dad, lying lifelessly on the floor in a pool of blood, a knife straight through his heart. It looked as if it had been thrown at incredible speed.

How could this have happened? Who did this? Why would anyone want to kill him? Could he be saved? Was it my fault? Am I responsible for his death? All these questions ran through my mind until I couldn't take it anymore. I needed to get out of here. I ran out again before anyone could stop me.  But this time, I didn't stop until I reached my secret place. My beautiful meadow. It looked over the entire city and had the most amazing view of the beach. It was still raining when I arrived but softer this time. Istood lost in my thoughts looking into the distance until I heard a branch break behind me.

I immediately spun around half expecting to see a killer.  Instead, I was met by a young boy who looked around the same age as me. He had jet black hair that swept gently over his eyes. His eyes. They were absolutely striking and so unique. They were a piercing shade of green. Looking into them felt as if I was looking into his soul. His soul, like a forbidden castle, concealing unknown secrets that I longed to hear. (A bit cheesy I know, but that's what it felt like.)
