My Navy Man

Chapter 2-

Brayden's POV

I followed Marry through the house. We passed by the living room where a boy was playing an Xbox with a girl and other kids were yelling at the players.

"Get off the couch like that children! You know better!" Marry yells. The kids jumped off the couch and onto the floor.

Marry took me into the very back room, her office. "Okay so you were looking to adopt a child is that right Mr. Wright?" she asked me looking for my file.

"Yes that's right".

"Now if you don't mind me asking why do you want to adopt a child. You don't seem much up to it" Mrs. Browning asked.

"Well I am lonely most days and when I'm off work I don't have anything to do. I would like more responsibility in my life" I respond.

"Where do you work?".

"I'm a Marine. I'm leader of training".

"Oh that's..nice. As I look at your file I see you are arranged to adopt Dani" Marry says flipping through the green file folder.

"Yes that's right. When can I take him" I ask.

She gives me a weird look and looks back at the file. "Please follow me and ill let you meet 'him'" she saying with an amused look on her face.

She walks out of the room and I follow her. We walk down a long hallway with 7 doors on each side. We get to a bright green door at the end of the hallway.

Marry knocks on the door. "Dani come out please sweetie. I need to talk to you" we wait a few second and then the door opens.

Dani's POV

"Dani come out please sweetie. I need to talk to you" Mrs. Browning says through the door.

I get off my bed and skip to the door.

When I open the door I see Mrs. Browning and the huge man that I ran into.

"Wait. This is Dani? I thought he was, well a boy" the man says. "Nope she is a girl" Mrs. Browning says popping the P.

My eyes go big and I give her a pleading look.
"Dani you are being adopted...By Mr. Wright"

I look at the huge man standing in front of me. I guess if you kind of look past his scary huge mean side he could maybe possibly be sorta nice.

"Uh I thought she was a boy. I wanted a boy" the man says. "I am sorry but she's is a girl. You have already adopted her by law all you have to do is sign that paper. You kind of already have to take her" Mrs. Browning says.

The man looks at me then looks at Mrs. B then back at me. "Give me the papers so I can get this over with. I have things I need to do".

Mrs. Browning takes us to her office and Mr. Wright signs the adoption papers.

"Dani will you please go pack your things so I can talk to Brayden" I nod and leave the room.

As I walk into my room Tristan is laying on my bed holding the teddy bear he got me when I first got put Into foster care.

"You can't leave. You can't leave me, your my best friend Dani" he says.

I feel tears come to the surface but I hold them back. I walk over to the bed and lay next to him. He kisses the top of my head and wraps his arms around me.

"Ill come visit you every week. Ill even bring Mac and cheese for you and make sure that douche is treating you right" Tristan says his breath tickling my neck.

I smile and nod. "Here ill help you finish pack". We both get off the bed and he grabs my duffle bag and helps put what little I have into it. All I have is a few clothes, pictures of me and Tristan, pictures of my mom, dad, and brother. I hold the teddy bear Tristan gave me in my right hand and a picture in my left.

I look down at it. "Dani what's that?" he asks. I hand it to him and a bright smile comes to his face. "I remember this day" he says laughing.

The picture was me and him covered in chocolate cake and red icing from his birthday party. It was a month after I was taken into foster care.

He walks me down stairs and we sit on the couch waiting for my new foster..uh house.

Brayden's POV

Once Dani left the room Marry looks out the window. "There is one thing I would like to talk to you about. Dani doesn't, uh talk. She hasn't since her parents and brother died."

"I have never nor has anyone else heard her talk and I just wanted to tell you so you didn't think she was always ignoring you. Maybe one day you can get her to talk to you"

This is a big shock. Well at least she won't annoy me with talking all the time. Lets just hope it won't annoy me with her not answering me when I ask something.

I nod telling her I understand and we both stand up walking into the living room where Dani was siting with that boy and smiling at a little boy making silly faces at her.

"Dani it's time to go. Well all miss you. Please come back and visit us I want to see you and I know little Bryce will miss you" Marry says looking at that little boy that was making faces at Dani.

Marry hugs Dani and whispers something in her ear. The guy that is always around her walks over with Bryce in his arms and they both hug her. He kisses her on her forehead and hand Bryce to her.

A tear slides down her face and Bryce wipes it away. "Momma please don't leave me" he cries.

Marry walks over laughing. "Come here Bryce, she'll come visit soon" she says trying to pull Bryce off Dani and after 3 tries Marry finally pulls him off and hands him to the guy.

After Dani says bye to everyone I usher her out the door and put what little she has in the back seat of my truck. She has trouble getting into the truck since she so small so I walk over and pick her up and put her in the seat buckling her up.

She glares at me and slaps my hands away. I roll my eyes and close the door. I climb into the drivers side and look over at her. She's looking at the foster home, I look closer an see the guy and Bryce at the window waving.

I finally pull out of the driveway and start making the trip to my.. our house.

Maybe I'm not ready to take care of a child. But then again maybe that's exactly what I need.
