Chapter seven

I looked up and saw that I was witnessing another death, no another murder.

The killer was holding a woman and was humming to her softly, whilst soothingly stroking her hair. The woman shivered under his touch and the goosebumps that had formed on her arm were visible, her eyes were closed and she seemed to be humming along with him. This time I watched with interest wanting to know what was going on. My eyes surveyed her body and from what I could see she looked malnourished and she was covered in old bruises, it made me wonder if the killer had kept her a prisoner here. Using a jug he trickled water into her mouth, he stared into her brown eyes for a while and seemed to get lost in them. He then gently shifted her onto his lap so she was facing away from him, he tenderly kissed her midnight black hair and his eyes filled with tears, sadness, guilt and love all showing on his face. Emotions I believed that he was incapable of.

He then whispered in her ear, “I love you.”

The woman's face lit up and just as she was about to reply the man roughly and expertly snapped her neck. As her dead body lay in his arms he let out an anguished cry and screamed out 'WHY?' As if someone else had killed her and not him. I looked at the woman and wondered what he had done to her before this or if her bruises were someone else's doing. I stood up and turned my back on the killer and his screams. He didn't deserve my pity.

                        Chapter eight

I left the bathroom and saw Jamie sat on the floor, looking as if all the fight had left him. When he saw my face he jumped up and asked me what happened.

“The killer... he um killed someone else.”

“I'm sorry you went through that alone.

“It's OK, let's go back downstairs.”

He nodded but showed no emotion.

We went downstairs and sat on the stairs far a while and stared at the door wondering if something weird would happen if we went near it. After some time Jamie approached the door and turned the handle, this time it opened but if I knew what was going on behind that door I'm not sure if I would have opened it.

There were police officers everywhere, the whole house had tape around it.

Eager to leave I ripped the tape but just as I was about to run forward a wave of unease and nausea spread through me, I started to stumble so I sat down and put my head between my knees.

“We're OK.”

I heard someone whisper, and saw that Jamie had come to sit beside me.

I looked at Jamie and saw that all the wounds had disappeared.

“Yeah, we are.” I said.

I looked at my hands and the rest of my body to see if any injuries remained and Jamie did the same.

The fact that we had actually come out alive had just dawned on me and I started to laugh hysterically and Jamie soon joined in.

“Ryssa.”

“Yeah.”

“We need to find someone, we need to tell them what happened.”

“Jamie, we can't.”

“Why not?”

“It's what said before. What are we going to tell them!? That the house is haunted? That we could see how people died? They'll never believe us. “
