Josh walked down the hall to his first class. New school year, new school, no friends. It's not like he had any at his old school, though.
He sat in the farthest seat from the front that he could find. He had sat there so he would hopefully be left alone, but, knowing his luck, a boy with dark hair and chocolate eyes sat in the desk right next to him. Honestly he was kind of cute.... No, he was way out of Josh's league. He was wearing a basketball jersey. He didn't look like a jock, but hey, don't judge a book by it's cover.
He noticed the boy frequently applying chapstick, he didn't look like he needed it, though, with his nice, soft lips. Perhaps it was a habit.
Whatever the teacher was saying, he had no idea what it was. He was too busy staring at the boy. Staring at every perfection of him, which was everything. From his perfectly imperfect hair, strewn about in a way that seemed so complex, yet so simple in all it's entirety, to his worn-in black vans, scuffed around the toes, the fabric fraying slightly.
But his lips, he couldn't stop staring at his lips. The very lips previously coated with chapstick. He longed to know what flavor that chapstick was.
He thought he would never get to know.
____________At lunch, Josh saw the boy again. He knew now, that his name was Tyler.
Josh sat at a table, alone. Tyler noticed and sat at the table with him.
"Hi..um, I just, I saw you sitting here alone and...I thought you could use some company."
Josh mumbled a faint "thanks".
"I um, I'm Tyler by the way."
"I'm Josh."
They got into a conversation about school stuff, but Josh continued to stare at Tyler's soft pink lips, coated with chapstick.
____________They had a few more classes together.
Tyler offered to walk home with Josh. He didn't want to be rude, so he agreed.
As they walked, a light drizzle of rain began to fall.
Josh watched as the rain fell from the clouds and dropped onto the ground. He smelled the sweet smell of the fresh rain on asphalt.
They reached his house and went up to the front door.
"So um, I'll see you tomorrow." Josh concluded.
"Yep." Tyler replied with a kiss to Josh's cheek, leaving a light mark there from his chapstick.
Raspberry.
