"Mum, I'm going to sleep. Good night. Love you!" I said, hugging her.
"Good night Alex. Love you too. Remember what I said. Try t-"
"Try to blend in and not create a ruckus. I know mum. Good night." I said, walking to my room.
I tuck into bed, fiddling with my heart-shape locket. My dad gave it to me on my ninth birthday. I'll never forget him. He gave me many precious memories. He will always be in my heart. My one and only dad.
"Good night dad. Love you. Wish me luck tomorrow." I whispered as I kissed the locket.
~~~~~
"Ring! Ring! Ring!"
I covered myself with my soft blanket to block the sound out. Gosh I hate mornings.
"Alex! Wake up! Your alarm's ringing!" My mum said, pulling the blanket away from me.
Since when did she come in here?
Giving up, I reluctantly sat up, pushing away my bed hair away from my face.
"Alright alright... I'm up." I said, shooing her away.
I stood up, walked to my bathroom and brushed my teeth while closing my eyes. Then, I faced the mirror and looked at my reflection. Don't you hate it when you have bed hair? I took the brush and combed my hair. When I'm done, I tied my hair into a loose bun. Finished, I walked out of the bathroom and towards my closet. I scanned my closet, mixing and matching the clothes that I have in my brain. With much consideration, I decided to wear a grey crop sweater with a pair of black high waist ripped jeans. I then took my Jansport bag and sling it over my shoulder. When I'm fully ready, I walked downstairs.
"Good morning mum. Thanks for the breakfast." I said, hugging her tightly.
My mum has always been there for me. She was my mum, best friend and a sister who I've always wanted.
"No problem. Just don't get used to it. I may have a night shift." She said, hugging me back.
Mum used to be a chairwoman at a hospital. But after we've moved to Los Angelos, she works as a doctor in a famous hospital. Working as a doctor means that she'll be busy most of the times. She may have night shifts anytime. When she was a chairman, she would come back home during the day. She works in the office at home. Although she works at home, once in awhile, she would play with me. But it's so different now. Everything has changed. Then a ring from her phone broke my train of thoughts.
"Ring! Ring!"
"Oh excuse me honey, it's the hospital. I need to answer this." She said standing up, walking towards our balcony.
I sat down at the table and started digging into the pancakes mum made. My mum was the best cook ever. Even though she's really busy, giving her lesser time to cook, she's the best cook ever. Give her some ingredients and she can whip up something scrumptious.
"Darling, remember about night shift that I was talking about?" She asked warily.
"Yes?" I said.
"I have three night shifts starting from tonight. Turns out there is a bug which causes patients to vomit ." She said, sighing heavily, looking down.
