(I had to do this thing to figure out how much I could randomly write in 10 minutes and this is what I did for it because I couldn't think of anything else and Mattie is my favorite. This is also my first x reader so please be understanding if it isn't expert FF and really cringy with no real romance. lol).
You sat face to face with your 'boyfriend'. Waiters and waitresses bustled around us, but nothing distracted from the words he just said.
"I can't do this anymore. We don't work. I don't feel anything for you."
You could feel the words pierce your heart the more you thought about it. You felt the rift between each other when you first met, but you ignored it and now he was the one admitting it. You dragged your eyes away from his. "I get it. Something's just aren't always mutual, right?" You laughed shakily.
He didn't respond. Knowing you weren't going to get another answer, you pulled out your half of the bill.
"It was fun while it lasted." You said. You started walking, feeling utterly humiliated. Again, the plan failed.
--------------------------------
Two days past. You didn't contact anyone, but the wasn't out of the ordinary when stuff like this happened. You were fine being cooped up in your house until all the junk food was gone. You'd order take out when you ran out. You'd be good as new in a few more days.
You took another bite of ice cream/preferred sweet as the doorbell sounded. You sunk down and wished they'd go away. Sadly, they didn't leave. Every three seconds the bell rang. You gave an annoyed sighed and swung the door open with a glare.
Then you saw a glimpse of the person and instantly slammed it shut, knowing it was him. "I'm not dealing with this!" You grunted.
"What did I do?" a small voice said with deep worry. Surprised by the tone, you opened the door again, but with an ashamed feeling.
"Mattie..." You said. He had a red tint to his face.
He was your best friend, or at least someone who knew you very well. Deep down, you liked him. How could you not? His heart was pure and kind. His eyes were hypnotic and were ones that could never be forgotten.
But weren't risking a long term friendship because of your so-called 'selfishness'. You tried to date other people as a plan to get over it, but it always ended up in break ups.
"Y-you haven't been answering your phone so I got a bit worried." He said with a shy glance.
You gave an awkward laugh as you tried to fix your messy hair, embarrassed to be caught in this state by him. "Things have just been crazy lately." You smiled.
"Is anything wrong?" He asked gently.
"Nope! It's all good!" You chirped with a suspicious happiness.
He could tell you were lying. "Then why are you in your 'I'm upset' PJ's?" He asked curiously. You looked down at your outfit. Black sweatpants with a black sweatshirt. He knew you way too well.
"He b-broke up with you didn't he?" Matthew said with a hint of relief that went undetected. You gave a slow nod. "What an idiot..." He muttered, knowing that person was stupid for letting you go.
Before you could respond, the shy Canadian wrapped his arms around you and gave you a sweet kiss. Shocked, your eyes widened, but returned the kiss the minute your lips met. His hug was so warm and he smelled of maple syrup and pine. He stopped the kiss and stood there with his arms around you.
Suddenly, he pulled away as he burst of confidence dwindled and ran back to his car with a bright red face, cursing himself for being so straightforward right after you had a relationship end. You cheekily smiled to yourself. The giddy feeling set as you realized he kissed you, meaning he felt the same way.
Maybe this crush wasn't so impossible.
(I tried. That's what is important.)
