(This whole part is from Maude's point of view.)

This car journey was the most painful thing I've ever experienced in my life. 'I really shouldn't be driving' I thought. I could barely see where I was going from the water that filled my eyes.

I had so many unanswered questions. Who could have done this? Why did they do this? Sam was such a sweetie pie he'd never get into a fight. This made me overthink things. What if the attack was planned. It had to have been. The only time I've seen Sam get properly mad was when some guy in the street tried to hit on me when he was literally right next to me. I crack a smile again thinking about how he chased off that creepy guy. My own superhero.

I snapped out of my daze when I seen the blue and red flashing lights appear in my mirrors. "Fuck! For fucking fuck sake!" I scream as I pull over to the side of the road and slam my hands over my face. I knew I was speeding but I didn't think of the consequences. I just wanted to get to the hospital as soon as I possibly could.

I heard a chap on my window so i put it down without lifting my head to look at the officer "do you know how fast you were going ma'am?" The deep voice to the side of me bellows. I looked at him and he takes a step backwards. "Woah are you okay lady?" At this moment I realised I must have looked revolting. My hair was everywhere, make-up running down my face and my eyes were all puffy. "Yeah I'm fine, my boyfriend has just been attacked so I'm driving to the hospital" I said sheepishly. "Was that the young man outside the Walmart?" He asks. My eyes start to well up again. "Yes, yes that him" I say looking down at my hands resting in my lap. "My colleagues are currently tracking a man who we believe launched this attack. We hope that we have the right guy and can bring him in". Although this was good news I just heard it didn't make me feel any better. All it did was make me think about my helpless Sammy lying there. "Okay that's good" I say to him still not looking back up. "Ma'am I won't give you a ticket as long as you drive safe and stay within the speed limits. I know you need to be somewhere but there's no good in you getting hurt too" his warning was stern. It felt like my dad was scolding me. "I'll let you get to your man, drive safe." He headed back to his patrol car and I set off once again. I just felt pissed off now. I could've been at the hospital if it wasn't for that guy.

I put that thought out of my head and within 5 minutes I was pulling into the parking spot and running to the front doors. I head for the front desk. "Sam, Sam Bashor" I blurt out while breathing really heavily. It's times like this where I realise how unfit I am. The woman behind the desk just stares at me. I must have scared the shit out of her. "I'm looking for Sam Bashor. He would've been brought in recently." I don't think I could have said that any quicker. "Do you know what kind of..." she tried remaining calm and talking slowly but I had to get to the point. "Stabbed in the stomach". Once again I say it so quickly. "Oh, okay ehh let me check... ahh yes he's in intensive care right now. You probably shouldn't go in there" I slammed my hand on the counter and started running down the hall following the signs saying 'Intensive Care Ward'.

I reached a table with two nurses sitting down presumably having their break. "Where is he? Where is Sam?" 'This hospital must think I'm just a crazy person' I thought to myself. At this moment I hear a voice behind me. "Maude?" I turn around to see a tall handsome man standing in front of me. "Hi, my name is Keith. We spoke on the phone earlier. I'm the paramedic." He said. "Yeah, where's Sam?" I respond frantically looking about trying to spot my bunny. "He's in the last room on the right but you can't go see him yet. There are people in there right now trying to help him" he said in a gentle voice as not to upset me but it was no use. I broke down immediately. I would've fell on the floor if it wasn't for one of the nurses getting up and pushing her chair under me. I just sat there weeping. I was useless. I couldn't do anything to help him.

After about 40 minutes of the two nurses and Keith trying to console me I look up to see four people, all in surgery overalls, walk out the last door on the right. Thinking the worst I started wailing again. Keith gets pulled to the side by what I assumed was a doctor. I just sat there thinking 'Sam's dead, Sam is dead and there's nothing I could have done.' I'd never experienced pain like this before. I'd lived a pretty happy life but now I've just lost my best friend, the love of my life, my little Sammy the Lamby.

Out of my peripheral I see Keith walking back over to me and he bends down in front of me putting his hand on mines. "Maude. The doctor has just told me that Sam is currently in a stable condition but he may slip out of it at any point." I felt relief wash over me. Finally a little bit of hope. "You can go down and see him if you want but he is unconscious". I needed to see him. "I don't care if he's unconscious I'm going in there".

I swung open the door and there he lay. I just stood there staring. The noise of the heart rate monitor gave me a warm feeling. He was hooked up to breathing apparatus. Tubes curling all around him all with different uses. It was as if they had swapped him out for a mannequin. He was perfectly still.

I couldn't stop myself from crying my eyes out as I sat down next to him. Slipping my hand into his I could feel the warmth. His hands were always so warm compared to mines. I sat there in silence just looking at him. Not a hair on his head was out of place. If I hadn't known what had happened I'd of thought he was just sleeping. He looked so perfect.

"Sam, I love you too"
