I stood there in shock as I held the one thing I prayed and hoped I would never see, but here it is, in my hands. My eyes read the top of the document, "State of Tennessee Divorce Agreement." You see, my mom and dad have been separated since I was four. I remember it all starting with a huge fight one night. I don't recall any of the specific details. Anyways, I'm still here looking at this family ending paper that seems to be mocking me by already having my mom's signature. I always had the tiniest piece of hope that my parents would get back together, however, life seems to disagree. I glance over at the digital clock, and it begins to warn me that I only have 20 minutes till I need to leave for school. I quickly fold the iniquitous paper and rush upstairs to my room.
"What to wear?" I mumble to myself.
10 minutes passed and I seem to have an outfit. A plain, red shirt with blue jeans.
Very Southern. Why am I surprised?
I go to the bathroom and prepare myself for school. After what seems to be 5 minutes, I go back downstairs and grab some breakfast - nothing much, just a bowl of cereal. My dad appears from his bedroom. I just acknowledge his existence in the room. What could I possibly say to him when he and my mom are getting a divorce and I'm left in the dark. I finished my breakfast, put my bowl in the sink, and looked at my dad.
"You got some mail," I informed him while I handed him the document," Some important details in there."
My father's face fell when he realize I now knew about the divorce.
"Ju-"
"Can't talk dad. School's calling my name."
Not wanting to talk to my dad, I grabbed my bag, books, and keys before heading out of the loving air conditioned house and into the southern heat. I unlocked my car - a red Ford Flex - and start making my way to school. When I arrive at school, I check the time. 7:50 I look for the nearest vending machine. What? I'm hungry? When I spot one, I start fishing my bag for a dollar while searching which item I want. I probably look like a lion looking at prey , but I'm hungry so I could care less. I ultimately decided on getting a pack of chocolate chip cookies, and make my way towards homeroom.
