When I make to homeroom, I take my seat beside my two best friends, Joanna Simone and Della Peragrine. Joanna, Della, and I have been friends since kindergarten. I wouldn't know where I'd be without them. After I sit in the uncomfortable desk, I hear Joanna talk about how there's a new guy at school.
"I think he's gay", she informs us," or bi."
"Joanna, how do you know if he's even gay? Today's the first time you've seen him", Della asks.
"I just have a feeling, Joanna confirms," Hey Jude, how was your weekend?"
"It was ok, I guess."
Della goes to ask me what's wrong, but the tardy bell cuts her off.
"Good morning, y'all", our teacher Mrs. Peterson greets us," We have a new student with us today. His name is Max Pierson. Max, why don't you come and tell us a little bit about yourself."
Max was sitting somewhere behind me and my two best friends. He was wearing a plaid shirt, who's top button was undone; rough looking blue jeans with a leather belt holding up the pants; and leather boots who seem to have seen better days. He looked kinda like a cowboy.
The cowboy who lost his hat.
When we reached the front of the room, he looked around the room quickly, glancing at me a little longer that everyone else. After that, he began to speak," Hi. My name is Max Pierson. I'm from a small, rural town in Texas called Wimberley. My father and I worked on a ranch while my mother took care of the house and my little brother. And so far, I'm liking Hollow Springs."
"Thank you, Max. Y'all can talk quietly until the bell," Mrs. Peterson instructed us. Max made his way back to his seat. Della turned to me and asked what was wrong. She and Joanna always knew when something was wrong. So, I told about how the divorce was actually happening. Joanna was listening as well and told every will be fine. Della nodded in agreement. The bell ,signaling that we need to migrate to our first period, rang a couple seconds later.
"See y'all in third", I tell Della and Joanna.
They both waved at me and each other. We all have the same classes except for first and second, but before I could leave the room, the cowboy stood in front of me.
"Jude, right?"
"Yeah." I could feel my face getting warmer. He just grins at my reaction.
"I think I have first with you. History, right?"
"Umm...yeah. How did you know that?"
He smiles,"Lucky guess. May I walk with you?"
"I guess"
We did walk to class together, only stopping at each other's lockers. But made me blush even more, which I didn't know was possible, was when he sat beside me instead of anyone else. That had all of the cheerleaders in my class confused.
Not every guy is into you. Jesus.
Class went by as usual, except for the constant notes from Max.
Cute glasses ;)
I push my glasses up, and I swear my face became a tomato.
"Mr. Pierson, I'd like for you to not disturb one of my top students. Thank you," our history says. I look at Max and give him a shy smile.
"Sorry, sir," Max responded.
After the teacher moved back to his desk, I look over to Max was grinning like a mad man. I just rolled my eyes and got back to my classwork. Eventually, after what seemed like years, the bell rang for second period.
Just one more period till I see Joanna and Della.
"So, I take it you do well in school?"
I smile towards a grinning Max.
"I do excellent"
"Well, what do you have next smartie pants?"
I look over my schedule and answer his question,"Math, you?"
His smile just gets bigger and that tells me exactly what he has.
"Fate just me, doesn't it," he gloated,"Shall we?"
I just nodded as well repeated what we did earlier. However, this time we make a stop in front of the office. I looked at him wondering what we're doing. He point at some sign up sheet.
"Sign-Up Sheet For Football"
"The football team?" I questioned.
"Oh come'on, I love football, he explained,"plus some beautiful boy has to wear my jersey", he winked at me.
"Well, sorry to bust your bubble, but I won't be wearing jersey anytime soon."
"Whatever," he chuckled as he signed his name.
"You'll be wearing mine soon," Max, which I'm not sure meant for me to hear mumbled.
We headed towards the math room with Max smiling as if his face was as long as the Great Wall and blushing as red as Rudolph's nose.
