Chapter One

You would think after countless books, movies, books that are made into movies, that the general population of the planet we like to call Earth, would make one accustomed to all things evil... or just plain weird.

We prepare ourselves for war, for when a natural disaster hits, but it wasn't enough and even then, the human mind can only handle so much.

So one day when the news presenter - something that I wasn't there for - told everyone that shit has literally hit the fan, in our case, a massive virus sweeping across the world in a frenzied rush killing anyone within days of contamination, what do you think people did?

They headed straight for any electronic store, TVs, phones, entertainment units, all snatched up. Don't even get me started on the scratches.

The rate at which this virus spread, there wasn't going to be any electricity to run any of that, but people minds run in the most confusing ways and I wasn't one to judge... much.

It took three weeks before phone service stopped working and another week after that for the power that ran everything to stop completely, and in that time, it only took two weeks before all hell broke loose.

The fire department and police department stopped responding as soon as the phones cut off, and the army? Well that took a while longer, but even they had become scarce.

There were stories told of people who were immune to the virus, but they disappeared faster than a fat kid devouring a cake. My only hope was that it was the scientist who snatched them up and not one of the crazy lunatics that had been unleashed upon us.

I guess you're wondering what this virus actually is and what makes it so deadly. Well the scientific name for it is Homo Necrosis Zombifis. Us less than an intellect people like to call them zombies, walkers, the walking dead or as I've heard from some, the munchers. Don't ask.

I was fifteen when the virus hit, living with my father, sister and stepmother - something I didn't know at the time. I had never got along with my stepmother, but if someone had told me before all of this happened that she would throw me out onto the street to fend for myself, I would have laughed, then thought about it, and then laugh again.

When it actually did happen, I actually did laugh. Not with humour and definitely not with joy, but more with, how the fuck did my life come to this.

I have no idea what exactly happened to them, and maybe in the past that would have affected me in a small way. Today, I've barely raised a thought about them and most likely wouldn't blink an eye if someone told me they were dead. Callous I know, but the world become a dog eat dog world - in our case, man eat man world - and everyone's first instinctive was to look after number one... themselves.

I had been living in Charleston, South Carolina for only a week when it happened, and another week after that before I was evicted, said in the nicest terms possible. Moving into a new area didn't help in the nowhere to go department, so I headed to the nearest mall and loaded myself up with enough supplies to last me a few days until I could do another run.

It took me quite a few months and a lot of dodging the walkers before I had a fully functional camp group out in the middle of the woods, as far from civilisation -and the zombies - as possible. It was a lonely existence but I made do with weekly, sometimes daily runs collecting as much as I possibly could to keep myself entertained.

My new 'home' was made up of many large tents put together to form one large house. I have a bedroom with a real bed and mattress and all, a dining room, a makeshift kitchen, a sitting room, a library and last and most important... a weapons room.

I also had a spare tent towards the back that I had loaded with spare supplies. If anyone ever happened to cross paths with me, I wanted to be able to help them in any way.

The thing that took me the longest and was one of the first thing I did was to put up a six foot wire fence with barbed wire and big pointy stick sticking out of the ground. That task alone took me a few month and I barely slept in the time it took for me to construct it and it wasn't to bad of a job if I didn't say so myself.

Just inside the fence line was a vegetable garden that went around the whole thing. I had enough to last a year and feed a small army. A lot of the food goes to waste, but I would rather have more food than none at all.

It had been a long week of boredom and reflection on my part that I had become restless and new that it wouldn't be long before I went out exploring again.

This time would be different however. It would be a three day hike by myself threw enemy territory and I would be heading to the one place that I haven't dared to go in over a year.

Tomorrow I was heading home.

Hello everyone,

Sorry I've been MIA lately. I've barely had the time to write but I am working on catching up on my updates. It shouldn't be long before I have one of To Travel Through Time, just finalising some parts in it.

Anyway this is just the start of my new story, felt like doing some Zombie work. Sorry if it's crap or anything, just wrote it straight into here in like half an hour.

Anyway, hopefully I'm back!

Love
