200 years ago, Britain was the greatest force on earth . It controlled South Asia, a third of Africa, a third of Middle East and was about to smash China into submission in the Opium Wars.
It had ushered in the industrial revolution and dominated World Trade and earth's seas like no one ever had. It was the empire on which the sun would never set and which colonized a fifth of the world population.
So what now, 200 years later?

A diminished player on the world stage with a shrinking military and Softening economy that is being taken over by the very countries they once colonized

A diminished player on the world stage with a shrinking military and Softening economy that is being taken over by the very countries they once colonized . Further to that its domestic politics lurches from one existential crisis to another- with the latest played out on the question of the EU.
It is incredible to watch but there is also a lesson :
The world changes quickly and the nations rise and fall too. And britain is
a petri dish to the western world and the best example of a nation that has witnessed the rise and is witnessing the fall.
