"Look mom! He shook my hand!"
"Awesome, sweetie!"
A tall woman, called mom, turned on the T.V. "What we thought was just a heavy rainstorm, is turning into a hurricane. We recommend taking cover immediately, for it might hit in the early morning."
Mom rushed into the kitchen and grabbed the phone.
"Mommy what's a hurricane?"
But mom did not answer. She put the phone down and rushed outside. Rain. Getting heavier and heavier. I ran to the door, but didn't go out. I saw the dark night sky. Loud thunder boomed. "Mommy what are you doing!?"
Mom rushed inside carrying lawn decor. She said, "Ricky, go get in the car."
Ricky, a child, ran out of site going to the car. Mom rushed upstairs.
About a minute later, she rushed down with another child, who was running to where Ricky had gone. Mom and I made eye contact for what seemed about a minute. She looked outside, then back at me. Then she left. I ran to follow her, but she slammed the door on me. I heard the car start up, and a child scream, "Mommy you forgot Lucky!" With no response heard, the car drove away. I knew they were going to be back soon. I just had to wait a little bit.*WHOOSH* *CRACK* *BANG*
I can hear trees falling. I can hear the storm. It feels like it is going on forever. *CRACK* *WHOOSH* The front door broke off. Wind was rushing in and out. Rain was pouring in the house. *CRACK* I can hear the roof coming off. *CRACK* *CRACK*Almost half the roof is gone. The house is filled with water. I run to the kitchen and try to jump on the table, so I don't drown. I fall to the ground, completely covered by rushing water. I try to stand up, but the wind catches me. Wind and water combined, rushing me back into the living room. I am on the ground, crying. I realize that my leg is broken. I crawl to the driest spot i can find, and lay there.
No wind. But still water. I try to stand up, but fall back down. I hear people talking outside.
"Yeah I saw the owners leave without him, I think their car was too small."
"Ok, well even if it's not a pit bull I still have to save him. Any dog that needs help right now i'll help." I heard people come through the door. I don't know who it is and i don't know if I want their help. I turn my head and see a group of people. Some of them have cameras. One has red hair. The other two look the same. I bark to make them think i'm scary. They all look around, and the red head sees me.
"Guys, I found him."
They all trudge through the water towards me. I growl.
"He's scared. He has every right to be."
Come and get me. I'm not scared. The red head baby talks me, and says it's okay. She grabbed a rope, and slid it around my neck. Then she saw my broken leg. I start crying and she lifts me up and puts me into a crate. Once we get out of my house, she set my crate on something that was floating on the water. I have never seen anything like it before. We start to move.I am in a car. I don't know where my family is.
I am far away from home and I am at a ranch I think. But as soon as we got there, the red head and another guy I have not seen before take me somewhere else!
Oh no. I am at a vet. This must be about my leg. They check me out, and they said I was fine except for my leg. They took me into another room and gave me a cast.
I have been at the vet for a while, and my leg is healed! Another girl talks to my vet lady and then walks me to the car. She said,
"Lets go Walter."
So I guess that is my new name. I like it.It has been a while and everybody loves me. I thought it was a normal day but the red head, which I know call Tia, took me out of my kennel and outside. I saw a family sitting down. I was so excited! I tried to run towards them, but sadly I was on a leash. I fell in love with them. A mom, a dad, and three kids. They were petting me and smiling. But, I still don't know why I am meeting them. Everyone is talking, but I don't listen. I just want attention. Tia looked me in the eyes, and said, "Walter I think you have a new home buddy!"
I got in the car, and we drove for a little bit. When we got to a house, I saw they people I had met. Tia took me inside, and it was amazing. It was so open and I even had my own bed! But now the best part. The backyard. I ran and ran because it was so open and green. Tia grabbed me, and said, "Thank you Walter, but you have found your forever home."
