This is short story for the Lenovo Back to School contest.

What is this kid doing? It seemed to hit me hard at that moment why the seat next to him, was the only empty one. Great, five minutes into the first day and already get too close to the weird kid. By too close I mean he's flinging his long, blonde, shaggy hair into my face as he plays air guitar to what ever he's listening to in those dollar tree head phones of his.

I look around to see everyone staring at me, some with pity and other with pure amusement. I guess they enjoyed watching a poor girl get whipped in the face by hair that feels like it hasn't been washed since last thanksgiving. Ew. He probably rubbed grease from the turkey in his hair to. I almost gagged at the thought. Stop doing that to yourself Maybel!

I did that allot. I would think of the most disgusting things possible, making myself almost barf. My mom told me it was because of my over active imagination, and that it was going to come in handy in the future. The over active imagination, just to be clear, not the weird thoughts.

Probably doesn't make a difference anyways, both of them don't help. Suddenly I smelled something like baby powder and cool aid. I looked to the culprit of the smell. It was the weird kid who was breathing on my face. " Can you move? " he said with a strange low voice that I had not expected from him. My cheeks instantly went red with embarrassment when I noticed everyone had left the bus.
" I-I " I stumbled out of the seat. " Sorry. ".

He got out the seat and shot one last blank look at me before walking down the aisle and exiting the bus. " Great, May. " I grumbled to myself sarcastically " Your friend-making machine. " I gathered my stuff up from under the seats, wanting to leave as soon as I can. Can't even get the weird kid to like me! God, how did I do this in kindergarten. Share a cookie?

This was just too confusing for me! I haven't made a close friend in over five years. I've stuck with the same people for five years! Five years of zero change. Then they're all just wiped clean from my life, like what we did together never happened until I got home and Face Timed them.

" Good bye, Sugar. " the bus lady said in a deep southern accent that made me cringe. Getting away as fast as I could, I stepped off the bus into a buzzing crowd of teenager that made up about half the population of Jefferson high. This school was huge.

I really needed my school map and schedule. In this huge crowd of people I couldn't reach into my backpack and get it without getting everything knocked out of my hand and falling to the ground where it will get trampled on beyond recognition, leaving me absolutely clueless. So I scurried of to the picnic table that wasn't crowded by intimidating people. It had three people sitting on one side, a beautiful blonde girl with jeans ripped up so much it was basically what was left of the jeans and black eyeliner circling her eyes, the other two were twins with dark red hair and unbelievable features, the other side was empty and perfect.

My heels clicked against the cement as I walked over to them and there picnic table. My favorite shoes gave me away, making them look at me. " Uh, hi, I'm sorry to bother you guys I just need to get some things out of my backpack, real quick. " I told them then adding " Then I'll leave you guys alone. ".

I sat my backpack down on the table and dug through my stuff as quickly as I could. " Did we say you could? " the blonde asked with a nasty tone. I paled as I looked up to her angered expression. Getting in a fight was not the best way to start off the school year, so I started throwing things into my bag as quick as I could. " Y-Your right. That was rude of me. I shouldn't just assume things like that. " I stuttered zipping my bag up and readying myself to mad dash as far as I could from these people.
