The next morning, I woke up to see my captor looking down at me. I really needed to find out his name or just make one up for him. Without even thinking I blurted out,
“What’s your name?”
He looked at me oddly before laughing and reaching out to stroke my hair out of my face.
“Adrian. And yours beautiful?”
At this all I did was roll my eyes. I got out of bed and walked right past him, heading towards the flap that would take me outside. Already I could imagine the bright warm sun on my skin and felt better. Which is odd, considering that I was currently a captive whose fate was yet to be decided. I couldn’t help it; I was always the child who spent all of their time outside.
Right before I could reach out to the outside, a hand wrapped around my arm and pulled me back, hard. I spun and Adrian caught me, holding me flush against his body. I looked up in his eyes and we stayed like that for a while. After a minute which felt like eternity, I awkwardly pulled away from him. He realized this and jumped back. Looking up from the ground I saw his face in a full blush.
“You can’t go outside yet. I ha…”
“What?!?! Why can’t I go outside?!?”
“If you would let me finish, I will tell you. Now, you can’t go outside for a few reasons. One being that you are not in the proper attire.”
I opened my mouth to speak but he gave me a death glare so I shut my mouth and let him continue.
“Also, I have to explain to you how this whole system works. You are a prisoner of the King’s Army and the General gave me permission to do with you what I pleased. Because I believe you will be a valuable asset to me, you will stay and travel with us until I decide different, or until you die. Understood?”
I only nodded. I didn’t like this side of him. The cold, hard, dominating side. I knew that he would have some down side; it was just too good to be true.
“And one last thing, you will not leave without my permission, and even then, you are not to stray out of my line of vision.”
I lost it at this. Who does he think he is?
“Who the hell do you think you are?? Demanding me around like I’m your slave! Well I’m not! Whatever you said back there yesterday, how you were like me; that was all just a lie! You tricked me. But you should know now that I will not act like a submissive, I will not stoop that low, no matter what you say or do.”
Adrian stood there with a slightly shocked look on his face. He looked at me for a few minutes before replying with,
“Well little girl, I’d like to know who put you in charge.”
“I am not little!” I drew myself up to my full height, which was still smaller than him but when you need some self-confidence, the bigger you make yourself look/feel, the better. I hate it when people call me little.
“Don’t interrupt me again. I’ve already told you that. And you are small. At least to me.”
When he saw the anger begin to boil on my face, he just laughed. All I wanted to do was punch this guy right now. How dare he?! I backed up until I could feel the warm air flowing in through the opening of the tent.
“At least I don’t kidnap random girls who are out practicing horseback riding!” I really hoped that he wouldn’t see through my lie.
“When I found you, you had no horse.”
“Because he ran away when you and your big army scared him!”
