"Dare wake up, we're home." Joe's voice rang loud in my ears and I let my eyes stay closed for just a second more before opening them and taking in a deep breath. Joe had parked in the garage so I didn't have to worry about any bright lights and people "Thanks Joe, I'm going to go pack up my clothes and one or two extra items. I will be gone for a short period of time and make sure to set all meetings I will have tomorrow morning and mid-day to five O' clock and later. At all moments I need you to be ready to pick me up or do something so make sure to always have your phone charged, on, and with you." I jumped out of the car making my way to the door but the feeling of a question lingered in the room, one that would never be asked but always pondered. Without turning around I answered his question before I could think better of it. "I'm starting school again," I turned around now "it's a school for magicians." I let him figure out the rest. Understanding dawned on his face. "How long have you known?" There was no judgment which made me continue. "For a while, I found out about it one day in a hallway when a kid rammed into me." I said jokingly and waited again for Joe to process my words. When he did instead of being upset he laughed. He laughed so hard he leaned against the car to support himself.
"Dare I've know all along that it was you who broke my arm and knocked me unconscious, I never said anything because I figured you would tell me when you were ready." Joe's laugh subsided and understanding formed on his face as he walked forward and passed me to open the door. "You never apologized with words but you did with your actions and that was more then enough for me." He stood there holding the door open until I passed.
The rest of our walk through the house was done in silence, as well as my packing and leaving. I checked my office one last time before leaving the mansion that had always been my home but at the same time seemed so cold. Joe didn't seem bothered by my having magic or even going to a school to better learn it, what he was bothered about was the fact that he couldn't be just around the corner ready to strike the first person who might bully me. I got a good laugh at that considering how I was trained in combat.
During the back to Balthazar's estate I emailed the other two heads of the black market explaining my absence and I looked over requests for magical items. I was going to be busy and while I wanted to sleep I wouldn't be able to get any without going through my messages and sending replies.
When Joe pulled up into Balthazar's driveway I had finished with everything and all I wanted to do was go to sleep. That unfortunately didn't happen. I opened the door and immediately the butler was in front of me leading me up a flight of stairs and into a big gold and cream colored room.
"Hurry and change into something nice, preferably a white button down and slacks, but you only have seven minutes so hurry please." He bowed and then left the room leaving me to change. Looking down at my attire I thought it was ok, but if button down and slacks was what they wanted that's what they would get. I pulled out a hand made suit and quickly changed into it.
I took only five minutes to get dressed but the butler- Wilber I think was his name- looked as if I had taken forever. Again he led me somewhere only this time I knew where. We were going to the same room I had been in earlier, the dining room I think. Only this time it wasn't just uncle Balthazar in it but also a couple about the same age as him and a young girl. Was this why he wanted me to get dressed up, for a girl?
Wilber cleared his throat and I remembered my manners. "Good evening ladies and gentlemen, please pardon my absence-" The man siting next to the woman cut me off with a loud booming laugh. "Nonsense child, as long as you are not late for any of your classes I see nothing wrong with being late. And since you are late for dinner I can only guess that you had a reason, but now that your here take your seat so we can begin." I flicked my gaze to Balthazar and I understood what this dinner was all about and it had a lot to do with me. This was the headmaster of the academy Balthazar wished to send me to along with his wife and daughter. Understanding what was happening made me feel somewhat better as I took my seat next to the young girl, she seemed to be about my age, but unlike most of the girls I had met she seemed... different. I offered my hand to her and she hesitantly took it. "I'm Darion, it's a pleasure to meet you." I tried for warm and friendly but everything I said sounded empty, I sighed inwardly think that I had at least tried to sound warm and friendly.
"I'm Kyra Rainchester, it's a pleasure to meet you too, were going to be in the same class I think. Your sixteen right?" She sounded unsure about my age just like anyone else who had tried to guess it. "Yes, I assumed Balthazar told you as much." I still sounded cold but the frost seemed to be fading away. The headmaster and his wife where immersed in what ever Balthazar was saying leaving Kyra and I to own conversation.
She nodded her head sheepishly in response to my question but although she looked sheepish the lack of color made me see straight through her disguise. "Your not shy or quiet, just pretending to be. Might I ask why you are lying to me, no don't tell me let me guess. Your parents want you to seem like a quiet shy girl hoping it makes you look delicate and lady like. I think I've got it all down." I was proud for a minute before Kyra smiled sarcastically. I felt I was in for something by the look in her eyes.
" I was raise to be a delicate flower by my parents Duke and Duchess of Delmon. However after the discovery of my magical powers, they sent me to live with my aunt and uncle until I have completed my lessons in magic. My eldest brother already finished and now it is down to just my second oldest brother and I." So the headmaster wasn't her father but her uncle and she was staying with her brother. Where was her brother then. "Rupert had other things to do." Kyra didn't say more and I didn't ask before dinner was served and conversation between me and the headmaster started.
