In the end, we only regret the chances we didn't take.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Present Day~
Josie's POV
"Lilac! Come here girl!" I called as I stepped into my apartment.
I heard the padding of feet, and soon my little Jack Russell tarrier peeked her head around the corner.
I giggled and took off my boots. "Did you miss me?" I asked, picking her up.
Lilac immediately began chewing on my finger, making me giggle again.
"Ok silly puppy, that's enough." I said, setting her down. I grabbed one of her chew toys off of the counter and set it down on the ground so she could play with it.
I sighed and set my keys on the counter before opening my fridge. "I really need to go shopping." I said.
I pulled out some grapes. "I should also learn how to cook." I said.
I laughed as I saw Lilac having a stare down with her toy. "I don't think it works that way girl." I said.
Lilac looked at me, then ran over to my side.
I smiled at her and looked at the clock.
I frowned. "Kenny!" I yelled, then sighed after I received no answer.
I grabbed the puppy chow and pored some into Lilac's dish. "There you go girl." I said as I set it on the ground for her.
"You called me?"
I turned around to see Kenny standing there, trying to dry his hair with a towel.
"Why didn't you feed our dog?" I asked. "She is ours. That doesn't mean I take care of her and you play with her. That means we both take care of her and both play with her."
Kenny sighed and leaned into the counter. "I'm tired. I had a long day." He said.
I put the bag of puppy chow back where it belonged, the sat down on a stool. "What happened Kenny?" I asked.
Kenny sighed again and walked over to the fridge. "I got layed off." He said.
My eyes widened. "Woah." I said, putting my head in my hands.
Kenny grabbed some ingredients from the fridge, and started to mix them together in a bowl. "Exactly." He said.
I grabbed a calculator. "If you aren't getting payed, that means my royalties will have to go to food and rent." I said, then read the number on the calculator and sighed. "And that only leaves a dollar going into savings every month."
Kenny grabbed a pan from the cabinet. "There goes our vacation." He said.
"There goes our house." I said.
"I'll find another job." Kenny said, putting a plate in front of me.
"Thanks." I said, then grabbed a fork and started to eat.
Kenny sat down beside me and ate quietly. We were both in our own worlds, thinking and planning.
