In the early morning, atop a hill surrounded by rubble and crumbling buildings, a small shack stands; housing the young boy known as Mark. He lays down on a blanket on the floor, a book open on the floor next to him and an old candle near his face. A brown jacket is draped over his back, and his old yellow cap is still atop his head. His eyes flutter open, before the dawn light can filter over the mountains and through his window. Mark props himself up on one elbow and looks over to the bed where he lay the green-haired boy the previous night.

He was still unconscious, his mouth slightly open as he lay unmoving on the soft bed. Mark sat up all the way, smiling in the boy's direction and scratching his chest. Then he got up and climbed to the top of the shack, pushing open the trap door on the roof. Carefully stepping up with his trumpet in hand he stretched, yawning and cracking his neck. After that he opened a cage door on the tower beside his home and a flock of doves flew out.

Mark watched as they flew up into the predawn sky, circling around his home. Smiling happily, he closed the cage door and hopped up on protruding bricks of the tower until he reached the top. He stood on the edge and tested his trumpet once, then brought it back to his mouth and began to play. The doves continued to fly gracefully, dipping down towards the valley and back up to circle around Mark. Just then the sun began to rise, filtering light through the window by Mark's bed; where Seán lay. His eyelids fluttered open and he looked towards the window.

Realization soon hit him, and he gasped; sitting up in bed. He looked around the small house, then out the window just in time to see the doves fly past. His hand shot up to his necklace, it was still there. Seán slid off the bed and put his feet into his shoes that had been lying conveniently next the bed. Once his shoes were on he stood up, walking in the general direction of the ladder and taking in the details of the shack; still holding his necklace lightly. A kettle was steaming on the single stove spot. The table was set for two, and various pictures hung on the walls.

Seán noticed the open trap door above the ladder in the roof. He glanced behind him once before ascending the ladder carefully. He poked his head up out of the trap door just in time to see the flock of doves headed straight for him. He let out a small shriek and ducked down while the birds flew over him. He turned his head to watch them fly around the tower next to the shack.

"Hey!" Mark called down. Seán turned his head in the direction of the deep voice, surprised and slightly afraid. Mark leaned out a little, smiling widely.

"It's about time you got up!" He giggled as the doves started landing on him and flapping their wings. "You guys," he laughed, "I'm tryin' ta talk to the guy." Seán laughed a little and pulled himself up.

"How are you feeling?" Mark asked. "Agh, guys knock it off." He laughed again. Seán was now standing on the roof.

Mark ran down the protruding brick and over to Seán, shaking his hand with his trumpet tucked under his arm. The doves followed him, flapping around his head as he talked to Seán.

"Hi, my name's Mark. I'm really glad to see you doing alright. You had me worried." Mark reached into his pocket and pulled something out. He took Sean's hand and placed some crumbled bread in it. "Go ahead and feed the doves, don't be shy."

Seán let out a small squeak as they fluttered around him now, eager to get at the bread crumbs. Then he started laughing as he watched them land on him and peck at the food in his hands. Mark's cheeks dusted with pink, but he did his best to ignore it.
