"You can talk?" I said confused. "It's your mom, don't you remember her?"

Kyle vigorously shook his head. "Please stay. Please," he pleaded, looking near to tears.

I sighed. "Fine. I'm hungry anyway."

Dinner was strange. The food was okay. Kyle sat nearly inches away from me like an attached puppy. We kept bumping elbows and I was getting annoyed. His mother talked on and on to me about her dear little Kyle. I wanted to yack. It was as if she were in love with the kid.

After she had cleaned up she told Kyle to go wash up and take a shower after dinner. She wanted him to stay the night. I really didn't care, but Kyle gave me the strangest look as she dragged him out of the room. I decided not to leave the poor zombie and lay down on their couch. Their house was small and smelled like cat pee and weed, but I didn't see a cat around.

I was about to doze off when I heard the sound of something breaking. I ran upstairs to hear shouting coming from the bathroom.

"You're a different person!" I heard Kyle's mother scream as I inched slowly towards the door. "You're body – it's someone else's! I don't understand what's happening!"

My hands gripped the doorknob and I flung the door open.

"Oh my god!" I barely even recognized the shrill voice coming from my own mouth. Kyle stood naked in the shower. Wet and dripping, while his mother stood before him screaming. His arms and legs and ankles had deep ligatures. He looked like a doll that had been carelessly sewed back together.

"What are you doing in here!" his mother shouted at me. "Get out of here!" she shoved me out of the door and slammed it in my face. I began to run downstairs, tears brimming my sky blue eyes. I didn't understand what was going on. I wanted to go home.

I reached the front door, but I heard Kyle scream no at her. Why was his mother in the bathroom like that, staring at him? What the fuck was going on?

Something told me not to leave Kyle here. I groaned to myself before running back up stairs. The bathroom was empty. I heard Kyle scream again and I found him in his room. He had boxers on and nothing else. His mother was standing in front of him repeating "No one knows you like I do" over and over again.

"What are you doing?" I cried and Kyle shoved her. He swiped one of his trophies from the shelf and smashed it into the front of her face.

"Kyle! Stop!" I screamed and tried to grab his arm but he threw me off so hard that I hit my head on something and everything faded to black.

I thought I died. When I came to I could smell the stench of death hanging in the air. I opened my eyes and Kyle was sitting cross legged on the floor cradling my head in his lap. He was covered in blood, his eyes wild and crying. I jolted to my feet and looked around the room. As soon as I saw what he had done to his mother I vomited.

"Please don't kill me," I whimpered, backing out of the room. Hot tears rolled down my cheeks, my body shaking.

Kyle stood up and I jumped back. "Jamie..." he said in a low voice, a sad look on his face. "I won't hurt you."

"Why did you do this Kyle? It's fucked up!" I cried harder, trying to make it to the door so I could run.

"She hurt me," he began to cry too. I knew what he meant. I saw what she was doing. I didn't want to think about how long that had been going on. But did she deserve to die? I mean, she loved him didn't she? Maybe too much.

I felt the doorknob at my back and I tried to turn around and open it to run, but Kyle appeared behind me so fast. He pressed his body against my back so hard the door shut. I cried harder. I was so scared he was going to kill me.

"Take me back to the house," I heard his hot breath tickle my ear. I wiggled around to face him his face inches from mine. He didn't look like he wanted to kill me. He looked sad and broken.

"I don't know what to do," I sobbed and he lifted his hand up to wipe the tears flowing out of my eyes.

"Zoe will know what to do," he whispered and grabbed me hand, leading me outside and back to the car.
