I woke up in a hide tent. The tent seemed temporary, as if they were hastily set up. I rolled over in my stretch and stared at the salted meat in the corner. The room reeked of blood, and the buzzing of flies sounded in my ear. I was about to return to my peaceful sleep when I heard a clank as someone entered the room.
"'Sup kid.' The person said deeply as he sat down on my cot, shifting the balance of the bed so that I rolled into him. I turned over to see my new visitor, and got a face full of shirt. His stomach fat reekd of butter and sweat. "Sorry man," he said as he heaved his enormous figure off the bed. The bed shifted once again and I was flung back. I tumbled off the bed and landed on my shoulder. A feeling like fire shot up my arm and I shrieked in pain. "Oh crap! Sorry kid." He exclaimed as he bounded over to me. He heaved me back onto my blood stained sheets and stepped back.
I finally got a view of my doctor. He looked about 500 pounds, had long hair, and small pudgy facial features. "What's your name?" I asked.
"O.B.C.T.," he said smiling at me. "The Namer has a cruel sense of humor."
"The Namer?" I asked
"He names everyone based off of what they look like after one week surviving."
"That reminds me, what the hell am I doing here?"
"About 5 years ago, the world was ridden with murderers, petty thieves, and rapists. In order to restore peace, and entertain the public, the government sent us criminals, who is everyone here, into this environment, staggering the deployment of fresh soldiers. In order to be freed, and cleared of your punishments, we must fight against other tribes and capture their gem. Once their gem is captured, the people on that tribe are immediately killed. We're not sure how it works, but it does. Once only one tribe remains, all soldiers on that tribe are freed and let loose into the public, with anything their heart desires. This way, the government can keep them from committing crimes again."
"Okay, so we are all here to fight to the death. Who's on my team?"
"Well let's worry about that later, for now rest, your training starts tomorrow."
"What about the scene earlier, where I fell into the water?"
"You were deployed. Whoever manages to reach that point first gets the soldier, in this case you. Now go to sleep, we'll feed you and then you need to be ready to fight in the morning. so goodnighty night," O.B.C.T said childishly as he walked out the room.
I layed in bed and stared at the top of the tent. I closed my eyes, took a deep breath of the musty air, and fell asleep.

A beagle sounded in the distance and my eyes fluttered open. I slid out of bed, legs aching, and walked out of the tent. I saw O.B.C.T. and walked over to him.
"'Sup kid," he said as he turned to face me. "Here's breakfast" he said as he handed me a hunk of bread and an energy drink. I sat down on the ground and began eating. I listened to the conversation being discussed by my team mates.
"Man, we sure lucked out getting the newbie." One man said.
"You're right we did" Another man said between mouthfulls of bread.
I grinned sheepishly and turned to O.B.C.T.
"Ready for training?" O.B.C.T. asked me.
"Uhhhh... I guess so," I said as he stood up from the ground.
"Follow me," he said and bounded off
I got up and followed him in hot pursuit, jogging to keep up with his enormous steps.
