-Chapter One-
"So she kept bladdering about how she was better at french than I was, so I told her that-
Suddenly the door smashes open only to reveal an angry Monika glaring at me while pursing her lips.
"Well, well, well, look who was eavesdropping again" She smirks at me smuggly as if she had just been adopted and wanted to rub it in my face.
"I wasn't eavesdropping Monika, i just, i lost my keys again and i was trying to pick the lock" I say while holding up my hairpin.
"There's this thing called knocking" Rebekah noted while raising her eyebrows at me, "You should try it."
"Knocking is too mainstream" I say trying to sound humorous, but by the looks on their face, I reckon I failed miserably
"Umm okay, i'm going back to my dorm before Miss Julies has another emotional breakdown"
Rebekah says in between giggles. The though of Miss Julies throwing another tantrum made me grin, she will never learn how to control a bunch of girls with the help of only Miss Winters, our orphanage's so said "best maid", according to Miss Julies. And by best maid, i'm sure she means the only one who can stop little Elizabeth's hysterical crying every single morning.
Yes, I do live in an orphanage, and have lived since I have known myself, and according to my horoscope, everything is only going downhill from here. Living in an orphanage is not as bad as it sounds, well im sure living in a nice house with a nice family would be much better but, i'm sure it's better than living on the streets. We have two maids, Miss Jules and Miss Winters, a nurse, five teachers, three cooks, 73 orphans, and one principal. All girls of course.
"What are you staring at?" Monika gives me yet another glare.
Oh shit, had I been staring at her this whole time?
"N- Nothing, just thinking" I stutter
"Well then stare somewhere else, Miss Lockhart said it's not ladylike to stare," She looks down at my legs, "Or sit with your legs wide open" She turns back to reading her book.
I quickly close my legs and look somewhere else, all she does is humiliate me, I wish i'd get adopted.. But who would adopt a sixteen year old teenager that has no manners and has never left farther than the market down the corner of our street? I suppose no-one.
Just then Miss Winters opens the door and grumbles "Lights out ladies", poor Miss Winters she must've said that about 30 times already, we were in one of the last dorms.
"Ugh, i'm not tired" Monika mumbles, "Then just don't go to sleep!" I state the obvious, "How rude of you! We have to follow our orders! How do you expect to ever get adopted if you don't follow rules and orders?" She gives me the glare. Again.
Whatever. I just wanna go to sleep.
-----------
I toss and turn, flip my pillow, and yet I won't fall asleep. What's wrong with me tonight? I have classes tomorrow, if I don't fall asleep I probably won't wake up in the morning either!
And then I feel it, "Ughh!" I shriek in pain, I think my back is ripping apart! "Oh my god Monika wake up!!" I yell, "Wake up please" I kick her bed with my best effort. "What the hell June!" She says peeking her head down to my bunk. "Just, please, look at my back and see if there's something in it!" "Ew. No." She scrunches her face. "Please!" I beg. "Ew fine, just, turn around and don't move"
Just then she stops moving. "Monika?" I breathe.
I do my best effort to turn around and look at her. Her face is pale, and her eyes are wide, almost popping out of their sockets.
"Monika what is it?" I cried. "Blood" she mutters, still wide eyed. "Lots of blood"
I look down to my bed and see my sheets covered in blood, I then reach out to touch my back, it feels wet and warm. Blood. I bring my hands in front of me and see it covered in it.
"Oh my god Monika please go get some help!" I cried while turning around to look at her.
She rushes out the door and in less than a minute she comes back with Miss Winters, both of them huffing and puffing from running.
Just as she rushes over to look at me, I start felling dizzy, my vision gets darker and darker. And then, I pass out.
