Matt's POV

In my drunken haze, I lost my girlfriend. For the past half hour or so, I've been looking everywhere for her, but with no luck. I make my way outside, for like the 3rd time, and see Alex emerge from the woods, alone. Normally he'll take some girl down the path to make out with the clearing, but he almost never goes down there alone. I walk over to him. "Hey man, have you seen my girl? I can't find her anywhere."

"Yeah dude, she took off."

"What? Why?"

"No reason." He shrugs, looking guilty.

"Alex..what did you do?"

"I may have taken her to the clearing."

Anger hits me like a brick. I clench my fists. "Did you kiss her?"

"Yeah. She wasn't into it."

"She's mine!" I yell. My vision goes red. When it clears, Alex is on the ground, holding his nose. Blood is spilling through his fingers. "You can't do this again! We just made up, man. You ruined it. Stay the fuck away from me."

"You broke my nose, you ass!" He shouts, but I'm already walking away. I don't have a car here, so I start walking back in the direction of Brae's house. I call her, it rings, then goes to voicemail. I try a couple more times but with no luck. Finally, I give up and call Allie. I explain the situation and she tells me that she'll be right over.

About 15 minutes later, Allie and Luke pull up beside me. I climb in the backseat of their car. "Sorry we took so long, man." Luke says. "There was an accident not far from here so we got detoured."

I nod, but then my stomach drops. "H-has anyone heard from Brae?" I ask.

"No." They both say, deepening my worry.

"Get home quick." I whisper, scared for my love.

"She was my best friend. My family. I never would have made it without her. I-I don't want to say much, because I could go on forever about her. All I want to say is that she changed my life. Things are never going to be the same without her. I-I love her so much." Allie's voice breaks and she wipes the tears from her eyes. "Braelyn will never be forgotten." She whispers, then goes to sit down. As soon as she sits, the tears that she was holding back start rushing down her face.

I step up to the podium. I don't want to be here, but Allie insisted that I say something. I clear my throat. "I didn't know Brae as long as most people here, but I knew things about her that nobody else did. She trusted me, and I her. She held my heart in her hands and she was always so, so gentle. Braelyn was the kind of girl that would help you up when you were down. She was kind, trustworthy and knew just what to say. She never asked for anything in return.

"As I stand before you today, I could tell you countless stories about her kindness, but you already know the type of person she was. And she was the person that I was undoubtedly in love with. She always said she loved me back, and I knew it was true because of her actions. I will forever cherish all the memories that I had with her. My only regret is that I didn't meet her before. Brae, I wanted to spend the rest of my life with you. I will love you forever and always. You-" My voice cracks and the tears start to flow. "I-I'm so sorry. I can't do this." I say, then walk out of the church.

It was her. I knew it all along. As soon as I heard about the accident, there was a sinking feeling that I couldn't shake. She was drunk. She went over the line and crashed head-on into another speeding car.

The impact didn't kill her. She was alive for hours afterward, in agony. When she flew through the windshield, glass got embedded into every inch of her skin. Her impact with the ground was enough to knock her out cold and keep her that way until she reached the hospital. 19 broken bones. Those didn't kill her either. What got her was the explosion. Mere minutes before the ambulance arrived, the other car blew up. A piece of that car was lodged in her stomach, causing too many internal injuries.

She looks peaceful now. Her major wounds are all covered by clothing. Her beautiful long hair is brushed out and flows down her chest. Her face looks at peace, just like it always did when I would see her in her sleep. It seems like it was years ago when I brought her to that party. She didn't even want to go. This is all my fault...

I have lost the only person that has ever truly love me, the only person I have ever truly wanted to be with. Forever. Allie still has Luke to hold on to. I have nobody. Nobody to talk to when things get rough, nobody to hold at the end of the day, nobody to love with all my heart. I can't start over now, nobody will ever compare. Nobody will ever make me feel the way she did. She was my love, my life, my whole world.

And now I have nothing.

THE END.
