Before they went shopping, Stacy convinced Jake to give her at least an idea of how she should dress. He thought it was cute that she was getting a new outfit and teased her about it the rest of the week. He told her a little black dress would do, with an emphasis on little. The black dress she bought had a deep v-neck, clinged to her waist and then let out out at the bottom covering down to her mid thigh. She paired that with some black heel shoes she already had and clutch bag.
Standing in the mirror in the mall bathroom she had to admit she looked sexy. Since they were just getting off work, there wasn’t much she could do with her hair, so she pinned it up in a high bun, and let a few tendrils loose to frame her face. Stacy was never heavy on the makeup, so all she put on was some black eyeliner and lipgloss. She had just got off the phone checking in on her mom and daughter. Ebony was already falling asleep, so she was happy she called when she did and got to say goodnight. Her mom had dropped her off at the mall so that Jake could do the driving, and they didn’t need to worry about returning to get her car. Everything was set, but yet her nerves were starting to get the best of her. She really wanted to call Taneeka for a pep talk, but a message from Jake came in before she could dial.
Are you ever coming out? We have reservations to make.
Stacy glanced in the mirror one last time and took a deep breath. She grabbed her bag and walked out. Jake was standing outside the restrooms waiting on her. It always amazed her how well he looked outside of the Santa costume. His clothes always fit like he took them to a tailor. She started wondering how could he afford to dress so nice with his job. Maybe he did work two jobs. As she walked up to him, he took his time looking her up and down.
“You look wonderful, I almost like this dress better than your elf costume.” Jake laughed at his own joke. He reached out and took her bag with one hand and held her hand with the other.
“So do I get to know where we are going now?” Stacy asked. The restaurant he was taking her to was some upscale place downtown that she had never heard of. She figured it must be nice since he said they had reservations. When they made it to his car, Stacy was shocked to see he was driving a BMW. He opened the door for her and gave her a kiss on the cheek before she sat down.
“Is this your car? How can you afford this?” She asked as he got in the driver’s side. She felt bad immediately after she had asked the question. She should have just called him a broke loser instead.
“It was a gift from my parents.” Jake answered and then quickly changed the subject to the traffic on the road.
“I’m sorry Jake, I didn’t mean it..” Stacy started before he cut her off. He placed his his right hand on her thigh and gave it a sqeeze.
“No worries. Lets just have a good time tonight. Took me a long time to get you to date me, and I don’t want it to start off with apologies.” The rest of the evening went smoothly after that. Jake was always the gentleman opening doors and helping her in and out of her chair. The restaurant was gorgeous. Probably the nicest place Stacy had ever been to. She felt a little bit out of place, but Jake seemed so comfortable that she eventually eased up too. They talked non stop during dinner. There went too many moments of awkward silence, and when there was, Jake always had a witty joke, or sexy compliment ready to fill the void and get them talking again.
He was very interested in learning more about her. She told him about her daughter, and spoke a little bit about her college classes.
“Is that why you are working the elf job? To pay for school?” Jake asked. Stacy shook her head no.
“No, I actually get a scholarship and grants to pay for that. The extra job is to help with holiday expenses. Honestly I did most of my Christmas shopping throughout the year, but things still get tight during the holiday season. Plus who wants to start the new year broke? I don't always work an extra job, but this year my day job hadn't mentioned our end of the year bonus and I panicked." Stacy took a sip of her wine just as the waitress was bringing their dessert. They had decided to share a slice of cheesecake.
"You said you work for a law office right?" Jake fed Stacy the first bite of cake. She couldn't believe how good it tasted. The whole meal was wonderful, but the cheesecake had just stolen the spotlight.
"Wow this tastes like heaven" She said with a mouthful. After swallowing the rest she continued talking. "I work for Woods and Smith. Not sure if you have heard of them. Turns out I might get my bonus after all. They just got a case representing some hot shot type millionaire. Ya know how those types are, always suing someone for something. As if they didn't have enough money already." Stacy used her own fork this time and offered a taste to Jake. He was looking at her strange. "Did I say something wrong?" She asked. Jake smiled and took the bite she was offering. Whatever was bothering him left as soon as it came. He went back to normal and they continued to talk while finishng their dessert.
After they left the restaurant they walked along the river holding hands. It was cold outside but it never got cold enough for the rivers, lakes, and ponds to freeze. Whenever the wind started up, Stacy would lean in closer to Jake. He stopped walking and pulled her over to a bench. He wrapped his arms around her and held her tight. She knew they were both probably thinking the same thing. It was almost time to end their date and go home.
"I had a really great time tonight Jake." Stacy said. "But I feel like you know everything about me yet I know nothing about you." Jake leaned his head against hers.
"What do you want to know?" He asked. Stacy shrugged trying to think of where to start. There were a lot of things she wanted to know, but didn't want to misrepresent herself. The question about the car earlier had made her hesitant to ask more questions.
"Well what do you do during the day when you aren't Santa Claus? And this may seem like a too late question, but hopefully you are single right?" Stacy hoped the questions came off as light hearted, but she did want real answers.
"I work for my dad. Yes I'm single, never been married. No kids, but I would love some. Hopefully I don't have to wait too much longer for those things to come into my life." His bluntness shocked her. She wasn’t expecting him to answer like that. So now she knew Jake was probably not just looking for a one night stand. Unless this was part of his game. "Anymore questions?" Stacy was still speechless, trying to figure out if Jake was telling her he was interested in something serious. The thought made her nervous. Maybe I'm over thinking this. It's the first date. He isn't asking you to marry him! She thought to herself. Jake stood them both up. He held her face in his hands and kissed her. This was the first time they had kissed since the parking lot last weekend. Just like the last time his kiss had instantly warmed her. His lips were still sweet from the dessert and wine. She wanted the moment to last forever, but he pulled away. He held her hand and they begin to start walking in the direction they came.
"Hope I didn't scare you off tonight." Jake said as they stood in front of her place. Stacy rented half of a duplex. The other side was empty so it was better than an apartment and almost like living in a single house.
"Don't be silly, you made me feel like a princess the whole evening." Stacy replied.
"Great then we can spend tomorrow coming up with plans for our next date. Now get inside where its warm" Jake kissed her quickly and waited for her to get inside before he left. Stacy's mom was asleep in the extra room, and Ebony was curled up in her bedroom. She pulled up the covers on her daughter then went to her own room and collapsed on the bed. She couldn't believe what a wonderful time she had. It seemed like dating was just what she needed right now to ease her stress and bring her into the holiday cheer, or maybe it was just Mr. Jake...Stacy sat up in the bed and laughed. She didn't even know his last name. She showered and got ready for bed. Checking her phone one last time she saw two messages. One from Taneeka telling her she was coming over in the morning for all the details and that she would bring breakfast for everyone. The other was from Jake telling her goodnight. For the first time Stacy couldn't wait for her mall shift that next afternoon so she could see him again. Until then she had to settle for sweet dreams of her sexy Santa Claus.
