By the time the police and ambulance made it to the scene Jake had beat the attacker bloody. Stacy had to convince the cops that Jake was the one to save her and not a criminal. Luckily all she had was a bruised rib. After being looked over at the Emergency room, she was interviewed by the cops again. Her mother finally made them leave and said that she would give them a statement later. Stacy was truly grateful, because all she wanted to do was get her daughter and go home. Not knowing the situation or how the night was going to be, her mother dropped Ebony off with Marcus' mother as soon as she got the call. Stacy got along with his mother just to make sure Ebony had a relationship with both sides of her family.
Jake stayed with her the whole time, and even escorted them home. She must have said thank you to him a million times, and even then, She knew nothing could show her gratitude. He had saved her life. They didn't get to talk about how he ended up there. They didn't really talk about anything. He kissed her goodbye once they were at her house and said he would call her tomorrow after she got some rest.
The first thing Stacy did was strip from her clothes, throw them away and got into a steaming hot shower. No matter how hot the water was, or how hard she scrubbed she felt like she could smell that horrible cologne and bad breathe. Tears flowed from her eyes as she thought about what could have happened. She said an extra long prayer that night before falling asleep. The night was filled with her waking up startled and scared. After giving up on sleep she went into Ebony's room and sat down on the rocking chair. She watched her daughter sleep and counted her many blessings until the sun came up.

Taneeka was banging on the door at 6:00 am. Stacy opened it up, and was almost knocked over by her best friend. The two girls stood in the doorway hugging and crying for almost five minutes.
"Im so glad you are okay! Do you know how Jake showed up?" Taneeka asked. Stacy shook her head. They were both sitting on the couch eating bagels. Ebony was on the floor eating and playing with her dolls. They were careful not to mention too many details in front her. It was easier to not upset Ebony. "So I guess this means you forgive him?"
"Yes and no. I'm not mad, but just because he saved me doesn't mean we forget about everything. We still have a lot to talk about. But yea, I trust him a lot more after last night." Stacy replied. Her phone started ringing and both girls jumped. They looked at each other and laughed. Thinking it was Jake she answered without even glancing at the caller ID.
"So I gotta find out you were attacked from my mom!? That's some messed up shit!" Marcus yelled through the phone. Taneeka looked at the change of expression on Stacy's face and asked who it was. Stacy mouthed the word Marcus.
"It was crazy last night, I was going to tell you today" Stacy lied. She had no plans on calling Marcus. She knew his mom or someone else would eventually tell him.
"Are you okay? He didn't do anything to you, right?" Marcus asked with an emphasis on the word do. Stacy knew what he meant, she also heard genuine concern which shocked her.
"I'm good. All I got was a few kicks. Nothing compared to what he got," Stacy smiled thinking about the beating Jake gave that guy.
"Yeah I heard about that too. We can talk about that later. I'm gonna come scoop you and Ebony up so we can go Christmas shopping."
"I already went shopping and there is nothing to talk about. Besides I thought you were in trouble with the law." Stacy hated when Marcus decided to pop up in their lives and dictate things.
"Don't believe everything you hear. I'll be there in an hour or two," Marcus hung up without waiting for Stacy to agree. He knew her too well. She was not going to keep her daughter away from her father. Taneeka knew what was up before Stacy could say anything.
"Just don't forget to call Jake." Is all she said on her way out. Taneeka hated Marcus and refused to be there when he arrived. Stacy sent Jake a text while she and Ebony got ready.
Ebony's father wants to see her. I will call you tonight.
Marcus took Ebony and Stacy to a few stores. He had a money clip full of cash, so Stacy knew he probably scored big on some drug deal or scam. She didn’t want anything to do with him or his dirty money, but Ebony was happy and she couldn’t take that away from her. He bought their daughter a bunch of winter clothes, and toys then they went to one of those pizza and video arcade places to eat.
While ebony crawled around in the the tubes and ball pit, Stacy and Marcus sat at a near by booth talking.
“So who is this guy you seeing,” Marcus asked. Stacy rolled her eyes. She knew the jealous baby-daddy routine was going to start up soon.
“Just a guy I met.”
“I heard he was some rich white guy.” His reply shocked her. She wanted to know how in the hell did he hear that.
“Who told you that?” Marcus laughed.
“So it must be true. Don’t worry I have my ways. You didn’t really think I wasn’t keeping a watch out for you and and my daughter.” Stacy hated the idea that people still made it their priority to report her every move to Marcus. This had been going on since high school. She did not understand why he even cared.
“Look my life isn’t really your business. and I don’t want to talk about it with you.” Stacy got up and walked over to the play area to get Ebony. It was getting late and she needed to go home. Marcus came and stood beside her.
“It is my business as long as you have our daughter, and don’t you ever forget that.” Stacy didn’t like Marcus’ attitude and was happy when he dropped her off at home. That was going to be the last time she saw him without it being in a court room. His little threat did not sit well with her. On the way home, she sent Jake a message saying that should would be home soon and they could talk. He said he felt like they should talk in person, so they would meet tomorrow at lunch.
