Golden light flooded the warm Greek air on the island of Crete. Below the rainbow filled sky, the crowd of tiny white speckled slums came into view. Serena was a short, tanned fifteen year old girl with wispy brown hair. She was originally from Spain, but because of her dads business going bankrupt, they had to pack up and move to a poor area of Crete.
Serena didn't mind though, as back in Spain she was bullied for wearing stupid clothes at school, she was constantly running away from men who tried to kidnap her, and she dreaded waking up everyday of her life there. But Serena saw this as a sign to start over fresh, a new life almost. She was determined.
Just them her father came into the cramped room and placed his hand on Serena's shoulder.
"Me and your mother were just talking... about... all of this... mess." He exclaimed in an embarrassed tone.
"Dad, your not making us move again are you?" Serena answered pleadingly.
"Oh no, were not moving yet," her father continued to talk "It's just that... with everything that has been going on, with the business and the moving and all... we've decided it's... too much for your mother to cope with."
"You mean..." Serena stuttered.
"Your mother and I," he sadly clarified "are getting a divorce."
Serena couldn't say she was surprised, as everyday since the move it was non stop shouting and arguments. Serena was always scared of the worst, and it happened.
"So... what's going to happen?" She asked hopefully.
"Well," her father explained, " she is going back to Spain to stay with your Gran. I'm probably going to stay put, maybe look for a job, or move further elsewhere."
Serena knew what was coming next. She knew it was going to be tough. It had all happened so fast, like a click of a finger.
"So your basically saying for me to choose between you and Mum." she said shortly.
Her father nodded painfully.
This was by far the hardest day Serena had ever had to go through ever. It just wasn't fair.
