I went to my my mom, seeing if I could convince her to delay the Selection's announcement. I rather get married to a princess to strengthen our relations than breaking me family apart. She is probably in the Women's Room. I talk to the guard outside, asking for permission to enter. He went into the room. He returned with a quick nod and resumed his stiff stance.
"Hi Mom."
"Hey honey," she replied.
Ok here it goes, I told myself.
"Mom, I have to tell you something."
"Ok, go ahead."
"Don't get mad but I seriously don't want to have a Selection. Could we put it off or marry a princess to strengthen our relations?" I said quickly.
She looked at my with her eyes wide. She took a deep breath before she spoke.
"Osten, I understand you are nervous, but that's normal. You also know that I would never agree to have a princess forcefully married. Your sister wasn't sold in marriage. Why don't you want a Selection? This will be good for you and have a chance to fall in love."
"Mom, I don't want to have a Selection for good reasons. I'm not ready to fall in love. I like my life the way it is. I don't need to get married."
"Can I know those reasons or do you want to tell your father them?"
Should I tell her the truth or not? It's my father or her. It's my mom. I will be fine. I thought.
I took a deep breath.
"I don't want to have the Selection because it will tear our family apart again. That's the history it has in our family. Your Selection, grandpa and grandma died. Dad almost died. You lost some of your closest friends. Eadlyn's Selection was also chaos. Ahren runs off to get married to Camille. You get a heart attack. Eadlyn takes the role of queen early. The Selection has only caused problems in our family." I finished.
I looked into Mom's eyes. They were glassy. She didn't say anything for a few minutes.
"Osten, I can't believe how proud it makes me feel to know my son cares about his family so much. Now I understand why you don't want to do the Selection. I don't if I have told about my story of the Selection. I will tell you tonight after dinner. I think it's time you know. Now go off and help Dad." She told me.
I nodded my head and left the room. I hope Mom talks to Dad and may try to delay my Selection. Who knows I could fall in love with a princess?              -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Dinner was joyful. I noticed Mom and Dad sneaking looks on me. I wonder if Eadlyn felt the same way as me for her Selection. I would have to ask maybe, if I even got the courage to. Dinner ended too quickly then what I would have liked. I didn't want to know what would be expecting me. Clearly, Mom had told Dad. Will I get out of the Selection?
