"Morning everybody!" Emmett boomed like his usual cheerful self. "Let me introduce you to Belly Bee." He then put his arm around me, as I slowly raised my head.
There, on people's faces was plastered a super-mega fake smile. Off course, Emmett being part of the crowd for so long now couldn't distinguish the difference of the natural and the plastered. My assumption proved correct by the fact that he is looking down at me smiling like mad- he is just doing the duty of a proud brother, but I was defiantly nothing to be proud of.
This is what I get when I start at a new school, people thinking that I'm the new girl, a shiny new toy, and then they are disappointed when they discover I am something they don't even consider human. Mom knows all about those type of kids, and their attitudes with me, but I never got round to telling Emmett and dad yet. Emphasis on the yet- I don't even know how I will tell them.
I thought it wouldn't be a problem here, I thought since I've spent some of my childhood here, people wouldn't look at me with those eyes. But who am I to judge that fate had other plans for me?
"You alright Belly?" Emmett squeezed my shoulder lightly.
"Sure" I said looking into his eyes, and kept the eye contact, I didn't need him to know about how people on the bus see me, a freak? A loser? Probably worse, but I don't care, I've got Emmett by my side and the brotherly love I'm receiving is enough to ignore them.
Emmett then herded us towards the back of the bus, where a group sat in a circle in their seats.
"Hey guys!" Emmett boomed.
Hey Emmett!" a small girl in a pixie frame beamed, even though it was a sweet voice, I was sure there was no adoration there, just friendliness. She turned to me and smiled even wider. The first things I noticed was that she had beautiful eyes, a deep forest green, black spiky hair and a pointy nose, all on display on perfectly clear skin- evidence of pure beauty.
I felt myself blushing on my cheeks, this is the first time I've seen any kindness on my first day of school. Also you could tell she was genuine and not just putting on a show for Emmett. I smiled in return.
"Bella" Emmett's hand made a show on presenting me then floated over to the petite girl. "Alice"
"Alice, Bella" He did the same for the girl.
"Nice to meet you Bella!" She has got some energy in her.
"Hey" I smiled timidly, I wasn't used to getting this kind of a first impression with people.
"And this is my man Edward" Emmett pointed to a heaven-made Greek god with green eyes.
Though he looks just around our age, his jaw line was already defined to be qualified as mature, a straight nose and plump red lips. I might have blinked once or twice to make sure I'm looking at reality but not some kind of daydream joke. But nope, he's real.
He smiled a heart breaking crooked smile. "Hello." His voice was as smooth as silk.
"Hey" I said like normal- I was surprised at my reaction, at least my body didn't make a fool out of myself today, I was sure I would have squeaked or something, but the result was rather pleasant.
"And they are Benjamin and his girlfriend Tia, and Peter and his girlfriend Charlotte" Emmett spoke their names while pointing at them. They all smiled warmly at me, I couldn't help but smile back timidly at them. It seems that maybe moving to Forks and hanging out with Emmett wouldn't be that bad after all.
Emmett then took a seat and dragged me next to him, giving me the window seat like he used to do.
"I'm so glad you're finally here Bella, Emmett and Charlie haven't stopped talking about you since you told them you were coming to stay." Alice turned around and spoke like a kid talking about going to a candy shop.
I smiled at her, but dropped my head straight away as the flush coloured my face at the contents of the comment.
The bus ride to the school was filled with pleasant conversation with me and Emmett catching up with each other. I told him more about Phil while he told me about how all of his current friends moved into town just a few months after I left, but off course not all together, but one by one. During the conversation Alice also told me embarrassing moments about Emmett, and how she and Edward are also twins. Which I guess explains how they both have the same amazing green eyes.
For almost the first time in my life, I enjoyed the idea of the first day at a new school, yes, there was the down side of the fake stuff I saw when I first boarded the bus, but then spending time with my brother and his friends, and the fact they didn't judge me from my shell, but liked me for being Emmett's sister and from what I told them, made me enjoy the idea even more, And the fact that I met Edward.
As life goes on, good things have to come to an end and they did when we arrived at the school. I was sent to the reception to get my schedule, and it turns out I've got a free lesson the first period which would be great but no one else I know has it too. So I decided to go up to the library and do some silent reading before the next class.
Fork's middle school's library is small in size, but the books are packed very closely together, I wonder what their collection of books hold. I dropped my bag on one of the tables and went into the sections to start looking over the books they have.
To my surprise they have a pretty decent collection of books, but nowhere as good as the one in Phoenix. I let out a breath and sighed. I miss Phoenix.
"What you snickering at Swan?" I look up to see someone with blue eyes.
"Sorry, do I know you?" I questioned silently, as I am in a library, and the fact I really don't recall meeting this person before.
"Drop the act Swan" he said it with the 'full of yourself' attitude. "Stop acting all shy when you were all smug with your brother bear on the bus."
News flash number one, brilliant Bella, you've somehow managed to cross paths with one of those 'Jock wannabe' jerks.
From past experience, I know this is not good. I avoid them at all cost. I remember there was once a time when I tried standing up for myself, but ended falling down the stairs with the help of a generous jerk. They are the people that you really need to be careful of, the actual jocks don't actually intend to harm you very badly, because they've gone past that point where they need to physically harm someone very badly; they've already got the 'respect' they wanted, all they need to do was harass someone in front of their pals, and they would already be considered cool.
But the jock wannabes are a whole different story, they need to do some dirty work, and most of the time, the weak and the ugly get it.
How I wish I was neither of them.
