After the library incident, I went to my next lesson and worst subject; Math.
When I got there I realized how late I was and that I was the last one to arrive and the class was about to begin. I ended up facing the disapproval of my teacher, whose name is Mr Schewaski, and the attention of everyone else in the room. I blushed in reaction.
"Nice of you to join us, Miss. Swan is it?" He said it with venom.
"Yes Sir" I replied timidly.
"Well, I didn't expect the town police chief's daughter to be a rebel like her brother too." The audience around us suddenly found themselves starring as extras in a classroom drama. I was gob smacked.
Just because I was late didn't mean that I was any worse than an average student. This is prejudice towards a new student. Even though I'm not sure how Emmett behaved in front of him, but he can't discriminate against me with what he had seen with my brother and the fact he brought my father into the matter was beyond any believe.
"I'm sorry sir, but I don't think that was a fair statement" I replied as I held my head up. I and my dad may be shy in personality, but deep within our bones we know when we need to defend ourselves.
"A challenging student" Mr. Schewaski stated again. "I see" He held his shiny chin up to the other way and said it like he came across this kind of scenario all the time, like he knew it all.
I was about to open my mouth again and defend myself, but I knew the conversation didn't need an audience. So I just blinked twice, and sulked on it.
Seconds later when silence invaded the room, Mr. Schewaski turned his back and seemed to be disappointed by my less reactive behavior he dropped his head a tiny fraction like a lost dog. But still held his high authority posture.
"No more words Miss Swan?" He asked.
"No, but I want to prove a point" I said matter-of-factly.
"Oh... and what point could that be?" He asked as he relaxed his shoulders.
"I'm not challenging" I said as I held my head up slightly higher. The class exploded with Ohhhs from the crowd behind us.
Mr. Schewaski frowned a little, but his eyes sparkled with just a click of a finger.
"Well, try as you may Miss Swan, but we're five minutes into class already, to make up the lost time, I'm sure everyone will be happy to stay behind five minutes in their break to catch up with the lost time" His smile looked polite but it held an edge of evil. Everybody in class moaned.
Great, that's gonna help me become the most popular person in the class.
"Now, Miss Swan I suggest you find yourself a place in my room, or else I might consider putting you in detention for class disruption" He smirked while turning to the board.
Very good; must be the tactics of years of experience. How could a teacher be evil on the first day of meeting a new student? It must be natural instincts in math teachers; I always had funny encounters with them.
Off course I was still gob-smacked, but I moved myself to the back of the room and found a place where I could be by myself and people couldn't easily stare, I didn't need people to critic me further.
With most of the class silenced, Mr. Schewaski went on to teaching the numbers on the board and how to solve a particular case of algebra.
I don't know why, but whenever I see numbers, I get a headache. So without choices, my mind slowly drifted off, leading me to think of Edward. The boy who I've only met recently and only talked to twice. If you count the library incident.
