Jaden Bojsen - Closer Than Friends

It was winter in Hamburg, Germany. The temperature was close to freezing - you couldn't survive without a thick sweater in this weather. Outside almost everything was coated in layers and layers of snow, and this kept most people indoors, rugged up and warm inside their houses, even though it was the weekend. But you were an exception.

You were currently trudging along the footpath which was partially hidden in a white blanket. You were on your way to Jaden's house, your closest friend who had made it quite big in America. He was back for two weeks and you were determined to see him, even if it meant a trip out in the ridiculous conditions.

Yes, you did have other friends here in Hamburg, but none as close to your heart as Jaden. He was your companion, partner in crime and you had shared your childhood and teenage years together, side by side. You were devastated when he left to the US last year, but at the same time proud that he had been successful in chasing his dream. Heartbroken maybe - yes, you did have feelings for the boy, a pathetic crush that you'd had since 6th grade. There was a small, empty space in your life where Jaden had been, and there wasn't anyone else who could fill it.

You hadn't seen him for 7 months, except over the Skype calls every now and then which always made your day. So you were very excited to see him. As you turned onto his street you felt your heartbeat speed up, your anticipation building.

When you reached the house all you wanted to do was barge through the tall garden gate, run up the pathway and knock on the door, all as quickly as possible. But to your disappointment your plan was halted at the first step. The gate wouldn't budge. You pushed and pulled but it seemed that the lock was frozen in place.

You put plan B into action. You would have to climb the fence and jump over. As a kid you didn't use the gate, you always went the hard way and scaled the stone wall. This memory put a smile on your face as you began to climb.

Unfortunately things didn't go as smoothly as they had done the hundreds of times in the past. Maybe it was the snow or just the lack of practice, but somehow you manged to end up falling clumsily into Jaden's yard, crashing onto the garbage bins with a bang.

You didn't even bother picking yourself up. Lying on the ground you looked up to the window you knew was Jaden's, waiting for his head to pop out.

"Y/N?"

"Hi Jaden."

--

A few minutes later you were wrapped warm blankets and warm arms. Jaden had greeted you with that dazzling smile, your favourite smile in the whole world, and had picked you up off of the ground, hugged the life out of you and then bundled you inside into the warmth of his house, calling you crazy for trekking out to his in the snowy weather.

"You are so stupid walking in the freezing weather!" He scolded you as he guided you to the couch, sitting you down beside the fireplace.

"You would do the same Bojsen." You fired back, and it was true, you knew he would.

He rolled his eyes. "Yeah, whatever."

"I'm really not sure why I missed your rude ass." You joked, shuffling over slightly and faking disgust.

Jaden, with a small pout, then threw himself at me, his arms latching themselves around my body. "You so missed me Y/N."

You didn't answer straight away, your thoughts distracting you. You had always been comfortable and close with Jaden. Sleepovers in the same bed, sharing food and drink, cuddles on the couch were normal and totally acceptable. Now, with Jaden clinging onto you, you suddenly felt as though this wasn't what two friends did, like it was too close, too touchy feely, and you suddenly saw how so many people mistook you two as boyfriend and girlfriend, and why your friends were convinced you two weren't just friends.

"Ugh Jaden, you're too big for this now," you groaned, pushing him away and getting some oxygen. He sat up, taking his hands off your neck and leaning against the back of the sofa. Almost as though he sensed your hesitation or read your thoughts he spoke.

"What's wrong? What are you thinking about?"

You sighed, cursing the fact that the blonde-haired guy beside you knew you too well. There was no point lying so you spilt the beans.

"About us," you said, looking down at your lap. "I was just thinking about how we're so close, y'know? And how we're so comfortable with each other."

Jaden nodded, as though he wanted you to go on or elaborate. "I just suddenly understood why everyone always thinks we're a couple after all these years of not getting it."

There was never any awkwardness between Jaden and you, but this had to be the closest to it as a tense silence fell.

"I know," he finally spoke after a few seconds. "The boys are always teasing me about us, and I realised that you are the person that I care about the most and I really do actually have a crush on you even after all these years of not knowing for sure."

"Uh, did you just say you had a crush on me?"

Both of you looked at each other. You were kind of shocked and shaken. He, on the other hand, looked mortified.

"Fuck, I did." He murmured, like he didn't believe it. "Uh, but don't pretend like you don't like me! Y/F/N told me before I left you know."

It was your turn to look embarrassed, a blush rising to your cheeks. "Okay, well this is awkward now." You announced, glancing away.

"Uh yeah." He agreed.

"We kind of just confessed that we both liked each other?"

"I think so."

There was another tense lull that fell over us. Never would I have imagined that there would be a situation like this between us, or something even half as awkward.

"They should really write a WikiHow page or make a movie about what to do if you accidently confess you like your crush. Movies are misleading though, because if we were in a movie right now we would start making out right now," a jumble of words poured out of Jaden's mouth, barely constructing themselves in to a comprehensible sentence. "But obviously that is fake, like we won't do that. Obviously I-"

He stopped abruptly, his eyes widening in shock as he saw you moving your face closer to his. "Oh." He managed to breath out before he tilted his head and your lips were on his.

You savoured the warm and gentle feeling of his lips on yours. You could almost taste the hot chocolate he was drinking before you arrived. His hand rested itself on your cheek, the touch making your skin tingle but it didn't trump the tightening feeling inside your chest that burned as you kissed him. You'd never rewll

When you pulled away you were flustered and red in the face. His pale skin was dusted with a blush too as he moved back, a smile spreading over the lips you just kissed.

"More then just friends?" You asked, looking at him for clarification.

"More then just friends." Jaden agreed, before leaning in for another kiss.
